A quick google search doesn't reveal anything. Do you have a source or link for this rumor?

I've heard it every couple of years. It was really rampant when some stores put up the barricades to keep semi's from driving thru the main front lots.

Our local Walmart just banned RVs. One buttwipe ruined it. Parked his falling apart DP (plywood basement storage door and delaminating side) in the middle of the lot, partially blocking one of the lanes. It was there for weeks. Before that, it was at the closed Sam's club lot for weeks. Maybe if he parked it in the corner no one uses, it wouldn't have caused as big of an issue.

If you an afford your RV rig you can afford to overnite in a Campground. If the install full hook ups I'll consider them

Here in Edmonton, AB. I have heard of this(rumour?)but RV's are still parking in Wally's lot.

It would be convient if one had driven for quite sometime with no near by CG sites.

Poor planning tho

That's condescending and actually not the point, so double fail for you

When driving a 30 hour trip, it's hard to find a campground willing to let you in past 9:00 PM. They can also be far off the road you are travelling.

I love Wallys hospitality. I make sure to ask permission and shop, in return I get a well lit parking lot with great security.

x2, .... haven't over night parked at WM, YET, but would, .... we have and do overnight at welcome centers and rest stops, because of convenience,.... we can drive until tired,..... till midnight or longer, we don't have to locate a cg in an area that we know nothing about, plus many cg close gates at dark,.... its all about being convenient, we're not there to camp, just sleep until the next morning, then continue our trip...... makes sense to me

I agree that if you are pulling in to a Walmart late at night and leaving early in the morning and using the lot as a quick stop over then it is acceptable. But when several rigs pull in at 3 in the afternoon and set up camp with lawn chair out and propane fire in the center then this is camping on the cheap. In the community near where I live there are 6 CG with in a 10 mile radius. One is a city run CG that is only a 10 min drive from Walmart the other 5 are within a 1/2 hour drive from the Walmart. All the CG are only a 5 min. drive from the main highway.
If you are using a Walmart for a quick stop over then go for it. If you are stopping early in the day and leaving late in the morning then spend a few dollars and get a proper campsite.

While traveling a few weeks ago, I had a late dinner at Cracker Barrel (9 PM) and asked if I could park in the back of their lot for the evening and they were fine with it. It was nice because they close at 10 and they have a good many spaces in the back for rigs or busses

A couple of the newer ones I have been in look like they are discouraging it. Very narrow entrances to the lot with large boulders right on the edge of the turn that would wipe out the side of your trailer. Doesn't bother me. I never camp there.

Complicated entrances seem to be a Wal-Mart thing. It seems like I always have to drive down a service road of some sort to even get to their parking lot.

There are a couple near me have these weird 5-way stops that are always a pain to get through and always get backed up on busy weekends.

People camped and did 30 hour trips long before Walmart's were on the scene. IMO, it's just being too cheap to use a campground and extremely poor planning.

I have witnessed more and more RVs RV'ing in the parking lots by 3pm! Slides out, awnings out, chairs out, grilling away!

What was once a late night quick stop, has turned into a destination for some!

Those are the folks that are too cheap to find a campground and will get Walmart to ban all campers. IMO, Walmart should ban camping in their lots.
