Western Montana to Harrisburg, PA (Late Oct 16) Suggestions?

We're spending the summer in Bigfork, MT (beautiful). The park closes on Oct 15th and we're heading to Fort Indiantown Gap (near Harrisburg), PA where I have an Army exercise. We're pondering whether to a) take a northern route, turning south over Michigan's Mackinac Bridge or b) head south from Montana, turning east around Salt Lake City. Concerned about likely weather phenomena (have to be there by Nov 2d), places to stay (are campgrounds open?), suggested things to see, etc.

Any help appreciated. We're a Berkshire 390RB (40'), towing a CR-v ona dolly.

A lot of campgrounds in Wi and Northern MI close around Columbus day. So I would use RV park reviews to find your campgrounds, calling ahead to find out if they are opened or not.
A couple of years ago we were breaking camp on Oct 15, as the campground was closing that day in Northern WI., Door County in a snow storm. We got to IL and the weather was in the 70's and sunny just a couple of hundred miles apart.


So I would take interstate 80 east better chance of no snow in late OCT and early Nov.
