That will be a tough one to answer. Not knowing how far you will be driving each day. Are you looking to just overnight, so sight see along the way?

like chevy02 said...many Wal-Mart stores (and some others) will allow you to park and sleep overnight. Just check with management first.
Also, truck stops allow it. Some rest areas as well, but I'd rather stop at a truck stop. You can fuel up, rest, use facilities, use dump stations, fill propane, grab some food and stretch your legs. Truck stops are an RV'ers best friend!

most flying J truck stops and Travel america have very clean facilities.
plus you can grab a clean shower
dump, fill up and stop over pretty secure if you dont mind the occasional rumble of rigs
I would park close to the front, to avoid the lot lizards(folks of the evening) and undesireables.
I would never sleep over in a rest area, to much of a risk for your famly
plus in july its going to be HOT and humid, got a genny?
state parks are also great jump in for the night places.

We have never had a problem with the rest stops, but again we have chosen the good clean ones that are well lit and rigs stay at, in no way did I mean anything to put your family at risk, I have a family of 5 with 3 small children, I guess you have to research and check out before you choose, powerboater is right the flying J are nice

yep back in the day most rest areas were pretty safe
but now texas has got to have the worst for security, followed by south miss. and louisianna
we do a little sanity check now when we pull into one, look around, see whos watching who, and if security is asleep or walking around.
but hey even at Loves we got hassled by an irrate trucker for parking near the trucks.
