Yellowstone Heater

Since this will be our first trip of any distance with our TT, I have a question for any of you that have visited Yellowstone in Aug. Wife and I will be spending a week there in Aug. I know this is not the best time of the year to visit, but, we are first stopping in Sturgis for bike week and then further west and then south. Other than a couple of trips to Sturgis for bike week we have never been this far west or at that high of an altitude.

My question is, would you advise taking a small electric heater with us for the evenings. I believe that I saw that the averages for that time of year were mid to high 70s for the day and mid to high 30s at night. Does this sound about right? I do have my propane furnace but why use expensive gas when the electric comes with the cost of the site. I don't currently have a heater so any suggestions regarding type would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Always take a small electric heater , You never know when the temps will drop or propane goes out ? It will take the chill off. Have a great trip

We also always carry an electric space heater.

You will find heaters run the gamut from inexpensive to overly expensive.
Just remember 1500w is 1500w. (the typical max wattage of an electric space heater)
My point is... a $20 1500w heater produces the same heat as a $200 1500w fancy looking one.

We have been in Yellowstone 5times in July and August. We have had snow several times on the visit. The last time in July 2016 we had 4 days of freezing temps. High for the days were in the mid 30’s.

I would definitely recommend having heaters with you. The temperatures in Yellowstone can vary tremendously over the course of several days.

Enjoy- it is our favorite National Park.

Most RVers carry an electric heater, to supplement the furnace.
Most popular are ceramic or oil-filled.

I have a fireplace but it's just to take the chill off. If it's a little cold at night I run the furnace. LP is just a part of camping to us

Not real sure what Fishing Bridge has to do with anything, We are staying at Grizzly in West Yellowstone but I do want to check out the campgrounds inside the park. Did not think that our first trip we should be experimenting without full hook-ups.

Fishing Bridge has full hookups. It’s just tight, you can’t put your awning out. It’s just a parking lot with hookups but it stays full and it’s kinda central in the park. They also have gas stations plus places to eat. We have stayed there three times. Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone is a well kept campground, it’s very pretty and within walking distance to all kinds of activities. It’s also close to the Park entrance. If this is your first visit then check out Old Faithful. They have a lunch buffet at the Inn that’s great and doesn’t cost to much. While you are there check out the other campgrounds in the Park, you may want to go back. You just have to get use to a bear jam, a sheep jam, a buffalo jam, lots of those. Any kind of animal jam. Just take your time and don’t get in a hurry

I lived about 100 miles south of there at a similar altitude. Middle of nowhere.

At the Memorial Day cookout we had 3" of snow that morning.

We were standing by the fire cooking goat. Being new I asked a local when did it not snow here. His reply was "I can't think of any".

Use your fireplace if you have one and a small electric heater. Assumes you have 110. And then, it could be warm there.

Very few nights while I lived there did the furnace not run! Temperature swings of 40 degrees were common. In Summer's I wore a t shirt, long sleeve shirt, and sweater a lot. Layers were important! Everything in the am and a t shirt at three.

We like this type for storage weight and size. It fits in many places in our rig. Also, this time of year they will be on clearance most places. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lasko-Ele...&wl13=&veh=sem

Keep in mind that not all campgrounds inside Yellowstone have full hookups. You may need to run your propane heater.

We went to Yellowstone a few years ago in July. No snow anywhere. 90s in the afternoon, 50s-40s at night. It was perfect. We have a small space heater. We stayed in Fishing Bridge, which apparently is associated with being horrible. We liked it. But if you go to Yellowstone to stay in the park and enjoy the amenities, you should probably just watch the Discovery Channel.

We carry an oil filled heater to keep the trailer warm. It is virtually silent except for the slight click of it's thermostat turning on/off. I do not like the noise of the propane furnace cycling at night waking me up. I think we paid $40 for it. We set the heater for a comfortable temperature and the furnace a little lower in case the heater cannot keep the trailer warm enough.
We also have a small electric heater to warm up the bath for showers.

Not all? Only one has hookups of any kind, Fishing Bridge CG.
All the others don't have hookups of any kind. No water or electric.

Well, the only improvements I know of, since 2007, was an electrical system upgrade of Fishing Bridge a few years ago.
