We keep our fiver at a seasonal campground, Melbourne Beach, FL. About 80% of the 576 sites are Park Models or “Destination Trailers” like the Cottage. Not impressed with most of the park models from a construction standpoint and they are actually smaller from a square footage standpoint (400 square feet max.) than many fivers and probably multiple slide destination trailers. Recently we helped a friend at the resort begin to look at destination trailers and from our research, Cedar Creek Cottage was the best built and equipped. Cedar Creek appears to be making available the more desirable options that are for the most part not available on other destination models. That being said, the higher-end fivers are in my opinion a little better built…made to go down the highway. The downside is usually a couple more stairs to the bedroom in the fiver. The upside, insurance. Park Model insurance, if you can find it on the coast is running about $2500 a year. If your carrier is aware that your destination model is not going to move, It will likely be much higher. With a fiver, in the eyes of the insurance company, you always have the option of “going to get it” when bad weather threatens, even if you don’t plan to. We pay less than $500.00 are year for $75,000 in replacement coverage.
