A big HELLO from North Carolina!

Hello everyone! This site has been a wealth of information so far! My husband and I purchased our first Travel Trailer yesterday, a 2016 Coachman Apex 300bhs. We are set to camp close by this weekend, and then heading into the mountains in two weeks. We're pulling this ultralite with a Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton with 4-10 regearing (is that a word?)

We have one child and 3 large dogs, and can't wait to start traveling a bit more. Are there any NC friends that have wonderful sites to guide us to? We love the feel of the state parks, spread out campsites, forestry, etc.

I may start another thread but a few questions that come to mind are:

-Best way to camp with your dogs - tips and tricks? I bought 3 no pull harnesses and we'll get a baby gate so we can leave the screen door closed without them scratching at it.

-Storage under the dinette- its sooo long. What do you use to access everything? Storage bins? Slide out drawers?

-Whats the best way to keep things from sliding in the cupboards?

Thanks for the anticipated warm welcome and here are a few pics of the new home away from home!

Welcome! To keep things from sliding around in the cabinets I use bins. I have one with aluminum foil, plastic baggies and wrap, etc. I like to keep the lids on them whenever possible. For those with canned goods, however, the cans are usually too tall for the lid. A small one with a handled lid houses my spices. These are all stored in the upper cabinets over the couch and the rear living area. In the upper cabinets in the kitchen, where I house plates, cups, and other cookware, I use the non-slip shelf lining material. I cut them to size and put one on the shelf, then one between each plate or cookware item. I wrap a long piece around each mug. My dishes are an old Corelle pattern I had and plastic plates and small cups, as well as plastic drinking cups. I wrap my crock pot in a bath towel and just slide in the coffee maker between two other bins.

Many years ago we enjoyed camping at a COE campground at the NC/TN border near the French Broad River. I don't recall the name of it, but it was pretty and secluded. We had a pop-up at the time, so I am not sure the size of the gravel pads, but we did enjoy it there.

Wow that's impressive...posting pics on your initial "welcome" introduction. Took some of us months and in my case years to figure out. Since you are in the region just go ahead and read up on the Mayberry rally, then sign up and join us in May. If the dogs are comfortable traveling in a vehicle then you won't have any problems. Take a favorite toy, we actually leave one in the camper, and all the other supporting items the dogs use and they will love the adventure.
