Absolute newbies! Rockwood Mini lite Travel Trailer

Feeling overwhelmed--where to start, where to go, how to run it, can anyone suggest? Live in Eastern Connecticut. So excited! We wish we could get a good campground recommendation to try out on our maiden voyage. Interested in scenic, quiet, clean campgrounds or camper/rv resorts.

Welcome!

As to where to begin, I think the best first step is to grab all your manuals and camp in your driveway first. This will help you learn the systems and processes and begin to feel more comfortable. Make sure to post in the forums here when you get stuck or have a question.

You can post that question about campgrounds in CT in our Eastern subforum.

Welcome We too have a rockwood mini lite. Great little TT. Last summer went to Wells Maine just for the beach and lobsters... much to see and the coast line is very nice. The dealer should have given you a run thru and a campground directory. My suggestion is to pick a place then search for a campsite. You will learn so much from the great folks here on this site.

Good luck and happy camping

Welcome from Wisconsin and congrats on your Rockwood Mini lite TT. Camp driveway is the best place to spend your first night.

Welcome from another Mini Lite owner. What model did you get? Check back here often. There is plenty to learn here. Welcome to the forum.

It is a Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S...love it. Small, maneuverable, lots of amenities. Can't wait to try it!

Welcome!

As stated, camp driveway is best. Hook up, pull it around the block then back it into your driveway, square it up, level it, run the slides out and double check the level. Then, block the wheels, unhook from the truck, level front to back, set the stabilizers. Remember, they're stabilizers only, not levelers.

Plug in to electrical and hook your water hose up with the regulator at the spigot end.

That, in a nutshell, is the setup. Run the awning out, kick back in some chairs and have fun.

Doing it at home allows you to go back and forth for all those things you need. I forgot to take towels out my very first time. The wife called to me from the shower to inform me of that.

And a spatula.

And dishwashing soap.

And other stuff. We thought we had it covered, lo and behold, there was a sheet full of items we missed. We took that list, went to dollar stores and bought stuff just for the camper or bought nicer stuff than we had in the house and moved old stuff outside.

By being at home, we were able to just do what we needed to without issue.

Welcome! We loved our 2109S as well. Never had a problem with it. The sound system was wonderful! However, DW did replace most of the curtains. We have since moved to a 5er and are now full timers.
You'll have many happy times in that TT.

Well you learned the right way, started out small figured things out then you bought your rolling mansion, without starting small you wouldn't have learned the things that you need and want to be comfortable. You have a great trailer to live in, Still the jury is out on your TV for it. Your both are retired and everyone should get what they want after all look at all the years working. Now it's time to take it easy, and have things that make it easy, after all your not as young as you were and you are getting older daily. Enjoy yourself, and get rid of the mean ass cat. (just a joke)

Yep the drive way is good. Don't forget the pillows. Congratulations on the new RV. Have fun, relax and enjoy. If you have questions or run into problems while you are out, campers are happy people, and generally more then willing to help, just ask.

we got lucky and had a good walk through. plus not being total new to travel trailers (parents owned a few) The route from where we picked up our tt to our home had a free camp ground with full hooks ups owned by Harris county. we pulled the trailer to the camp ground. proceeded to slowly disconnect and hook the tt. we then ran to the local walmart and picked up essentials and longer sewer line. It worked out great as we were only a bout 20 to 30 miles from the dealer as we had to run back to pick up a few things that was forgotten to give us like tv and entertainment system remotes.
Congrats on your new purchase we get lots of questions and compliments on our mini lite

After the driveway adventure, I suggest a overnight at a campground as close to home as possible. This will be your true shakedown (unless you have full hookups at home )

Our RV dealer has a KOA co-located to the dealership and they offer a one night over when you take delivery--that was a Godsend all the little annoyances that were missed in the walkthrough were found that evening and the dealer sent a tech over in a golf cart the next day to fix everything (ergo why we love our dealer

I digress though - seriously, do a overnight at a full hookup campground close to home (and a RV supply ) and you can't go wrong!

Welcome to the forums!

Andiem1, just a few suggestions. Buy a second hose and an extension power cord. I have camped at CGs several times where I needed the extension. Also, if your slide out should not work someday, the fuse is outside under the camper behind the battery in a green plastic case. Carry spare fuses also. They come in handy. We have enjoyed our 2109S.

Welcome, newbies! You chose a good trailer to start with - just big enough to be comfortable and small enough to be maneuverable and to fit into a variety of campsites. We are new to the Mini-Lites too, coming down in size from a 34' Flagstaff, so we'll have a learning curve as well. If your local zoning laws will allow it, Camp Driveway is a good place to start. Once you want to start going a little farther afield, you might look into Fisherman's Memorial State Park in Narragansett. Nice park with both elec/water sites and full-hookup ones. (We were in the EW sites and liked ours just fine - our site # was 31, which had some nice shade.) From the other side of CT you could consider the Newburgh (NY) KOA - lots of nice shady sites there with plenty of space for RVs.

The "mean ass cat" is our protector! Besides, Kathy would get rid of me first.

Wow, it's like we're twins!! We got ours just about a year ago, and we also live in eastern CT!!

We first camped at Fishermans Memorial in Point Judith, Rhode Island in April of last year. They have spots with electric and water hook ups. It was a pretty good place to start!!! It was a good place to start. This year we've got a couple of reservations already booked at West Thompson Lake. They also have some spots with electric and water.

Good luck with the mini lite!! We love ours. We've done a few modifications to it. We added shelves to the large wardrobe next to the fridge, and we made a wooden cutting board cover for the stove. We cook almost everything outside on our Webber Q grill, so the stove wasn't used all that much, and we like having the extra counter space.
