Almost There
Hi
My husband and I are looking at buying a 2009 Forest River Flagstaff FLT831KRSS travel trailer. We looked today and we really like it . We have always owned Motorhomes so this is new to us. If anyone has any comments on this particular unit I would appreciate it. Also we are wondering if anyone knows if this could be towed with a 2014 Silverado 1500 5.3 l ecotec 4x4. We are just part timers and hope to take only a few long distance trips in the future! Thanks

I could not find specs for the 2009 model but similar current models run almost 9000 GVWR. Would need to know specs on truck. You would need the max tow package or you would be limited to 6800 or 9600 depending on rear end of truck.

Post up your truck specs, the door sticker, and the weight off of the TT is you can. Be weary of the dealer just saying "you'll be fine".

Depending on your truck's setup, you *may* be able to tow the trailer, but that is a lot of trailer for a standard equipped 1/2 ton truck.
Since you have been a exclusive MH driver, you may want to reconsider a Travel Trailer and take a look at a lightweight 5th wheel. 5ers tow SO much better than TT, are subject to a LOT less sway, and generally feel much more roomy than a TT.

Currently we have a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD4x4. The GVRW on the trailer says 7400 lbs. The model of the the TT is FLT 831KRSS. Thanks! This is quite a trial by fire!

The reason we are looking at a new Silverado 1500 is the gas mileage.

I suspect you will get much better gas...err diesel mileage with a 3/4T diesel.
Our 1/2T Ecoboost gets *at best* 12MPG towing and usually averages 9-10. Highways, not towing we can almost get 19MPG

Yay ! I think. We pulled the trigger and bought the 2009 Flagstaff. We pick it up today. Will use the GMC 2500 HD to pull it. I sure hope it works out. Nothing like putting the horse before the carriage. Excited , Scared, but ready to jump in.

I think you made the right decision to keep the 2500. You'll never be short on power and the 2500 will handle the sway much better than a light duty truck without upgrades. In fact, I never used (or needed) a sway control when I had a TT (although admittedly it was about half the weight of your Flagstaff).
