Back in the 60's we were (tent) camping on the outer banks of NC late fall (favorite time of the year to be there). Back then, weather reporting was mainly through newspapers and some rado stations. On the outer banks they didn't want to alert tourists to rotten weather, afraid they'd stay away and not spend money! An epic Nor'easter came in - probably close to hurricane force. Away from the campsite, we lost everything - and I do mean everything: tent, food pantry, clothes, sleeping bags - I guess they all went into the ocean or the sound. That cured me of tent camping!
