Brand new to RV'ing and greetings from WA state!
Hello all,
My husband and I are pleased to find a forum that we hopefully can learn a lot from and get comfortable with RV'ing. I have towed a horse trailer but we have never owned or hauled a travel trailer.
We just purchased a 2004 Forest River Sierra...and this is the interesting part...the decal on the trailer says T28 (which would be a toyhauler?) and it's not...the previous owner said it's known as a 28FKSS (28 foot with a front kitchen and a super slide). Is there anyone on this forum with the same model?
The decal that has the tongue weight etc is too faded to read and we need to go buy a equalizer hitch and anti-sway bars and were hoping we could find out what we would need. We will be towing with a 2003 3/4 ton Chevy diesel 4 x 4 pickup.
A little about us...we are both Boeing employees, though I am retiring in Jan. My husband will probably work another 2 years. We have 2 Belgian Tervuren that we will be traveling with. (I train/trial in IPO/Schutzhund, Ring and Nosework and will be starting agility). I am SO looking forward to just relaxing and enjoying the beauty of our country! Tammy and Guerdon

Welcome to the forum from the right side of the country !!
The T28 could be the model number of a 2004 model, which later evolved into a more complex number like the 28FKSS. Maybe same traier, but just a different number.
I don't think the tongue weight is typically noted on the weight sticker. You may have to get out your bathroom scales and do some driveway measurements to get the tongue weight. Measuring trailer tongue weight with a bathroom scale And that will probably increase after you are loaded for camping.

Here is the 2004 Sierra brochure in case you are interested: http://web.archive.org/web/200411111...s/sierra04.pdf
Looks like that trailer has an empty tongue weight of 925 lbs. You will probably need 1200 lb. WDH spring bars by the time the trailer is loaded for camping.

Welcome from the top LH corner of the WA mainland. We're about to become former RVers. At 73 (me) and a bit younger (DW) and on a fairly limited retiree budget, we just can't hack it any longer. When we started out, gas was $1.75 and most SP's were $15 a night. At 8 mpg, $4/gal makes for expensive trips, and most SP's are up around $30, with many commercial CG's topping $50.
We're planning to put the rig with one of the consignment dealers along I-5 in Skagit county. Haven't decided which one yet, but friends have good things to say about Country Motors, on the south side of Mount Vernon.
