First Post - Hello!

Greetings -

I've become rather a forum junky in the last few months since we have made the decision to go fulltime next summer. We are in the process of selling lock, stock and barrel over the next several months, with the house going very last. Wow, we have a lot of crap (can you say that here?).

Good research includes asking questions and weighing many opinions, so here we are! We have narrowed our class A choices down significantly and are looking hard @ Tiffin, then ran across a Georgetown gasser @ the local RV show last week that we just loved. Some threads make the point that many manufacturers use the same parts in their rigs, so what's most important comes down to floorplan, fit & finish, and getting great customer service - oh - and budget being #1! Thus the gasser option must be considered, since even the "gently used" DPs seem out of reach for us.

We will more than likely be the type of fulltimers who stay in one place for a few months or longer (working as we go), and keep mostly to the Nortwest states, since that's where family is - lots of mountain passes! Our toad will be our paid-for Nissan (so we'll need a dolly) and at least a 5k tow capacity. Around 36' + floorplans are our favorite, since the DH will need to build an office/desk area. Bunk models look good for that. Washer/dryer is a must as is decent storage for fulltiming. Modifications are no problem for us and we actually look forward to personalizing to suit - we've done that with two S&B, why not an RV, right?

Looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts and opinions!

Hello, and to the forums. Hope you enjoy the stay, and learn a lot, and can teach others what you already know. Hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Hi and welcome to the forums! As you already found out an RV show is a great resource. Got to admit that its fun checking and comparing units.

Take care

I think you'll find that the gassers are mainly equipped with 5000-pound hitches. You didn't say what model Nissan you have and whether it's an automatic transmission.

We have the dilemma of having a gasser with the hitch limit and our daily driver is a 4800-pound Kia Sedona. It would cost more than the car's worth to set it up for four-down, but we'd be over the hitch limit with a dolly that was husky enough to handle a 4800-pound FWD van.

If we'd been thinking a bit straighter, we might have gone for an older DP, still within our budget, that could pull 8,000 pounds or more. We're also limited to about 33' due to where we park it alongside the house, and shorter DPs were'nt that visible in the used market three years back.
