forest river rv's don't stink, really they don't
Hello everyone! Nifty website, hope to use it more in the future. Owned 3 Forest River products in the past and are looking to upgrade to a 2011 Sierra/Sandpiper 345RET. We've been impressed with the simple fact that compared to other brands (mainly keystone), Forest Rivers don't stink/smell of chemicals. Keystones stink even after 4+ years of being aired out. Anyway, I'll be cruising the Sierra and 'Piper forums in the future.
Previous RV's.... 2001 Rockwood Roo 21B, 2004 Salem 27BH, 2008 Wildcat 32QBBS ... the Roo was the funest one but don't miss dripping condensation on my face and in my ear every morning.

camper smell
We just ordered our 2012 Sandpiper 365 saq. We had a Keystone outback 25rss and I know the smell your talking about. The wife said it was the smell of camping! I thought different. I'm hoping our sandpiper has a very different smell. something like mountain air, sand, salty air, pine trees,or Honeysuckle all would be good I think.

Funny you mention the smell - my girlfriend (who has very little RV experince) made a comment about the chemical smell when we looked at a Keystone model at the show last weekend. She thought it should have had a FEMA banner across the front...

keystone odors...
I can faintly smell odors on other brands (Jayco, K-Z, etc), but none are as strong as Keystone (Montana) products. I think you'll really like the 'Piper 365SAQ, sat in one at a local show the other weekend and chatted with the Sierra rep (Sandpiper/Sierra practically same campers, slight appointment changes). I think Keystones smell to constantly remind you how much money you will loose in depreciation. Well, I think they ALL depreciate based on values over the years, but the "GOOD" smell in a Forest River product doesn't constantly remind you of the investment. I never thought I'd be spending over $40K on a CAMPER! I'd actually be fine with a small Rockwood popup or Roo again, but the wife wants a BIT more plush. I've tried convincing her that we could buy a ROO and STILL go to Florida each and every year for the next 10+ years at the difference we're paying for the albeit AWESOME but spendy, larger Sierras (not even going there with the Cedar Creeks!) Cheers to camping in 2012!!!

You know, now that you mention it, our fifth did smell really nice right from new. Never really thought about it, but they must be using a lot less formaldahyde-laden products than Keystone. Probably costs a bit more, but wouldn't make their customers sick.

Got our Sandpiper 29l in November and have had the chemical smell. Did find strong smell in some Jaycos we had looked at. The Citation we traded for the Sandpiper had some smell but it didnt last very long.

I have a 2005 Flagstaff and it has always smelled fresh and clean. It has been parked in my yard for several months, sealed up tight, and I went out today to check things over and it still smelled great. The first time my brother ever went in the trailer he commented on how good this trailer smells. I always thought it was the type of air freshener I use, but I haven't replaced them in almost two years and you'd never know it. Gotta love it!!

We bought a new to us, used 2009 Palomino Puma. It was well taken care of, no smell except for the RV anti-freeze. We bought a new Palomino P2100 pop-up in January 2010, no smell in it.
