Friday build Work and Play 5er

Be forewarned this is a long-winded post...

Hello all, it is with much sadness that I greet you all this way. I bought and purchased my 38FK Work and Play 5er back in July 2014. I did not take delivery until September at which time I found out that I couldn't apply for the extended warranty because my 30 days were up to apply. I bought my 5er in Indiana and currently live in Colorado. I think and feel that my 5er was a Friday afternoon build.

I have been living in my trailer since September 2014 and have had some issues that were missed by QA/QC. Roof-leak, missing four screws in one-leg of awning support, A/C will not stay on when fridge compressor kicks on, screw missing on switch cover for loft bed, water leaks between awning and side of RV. The rear ramp door hinges not installed properly, so an extra roll spring could not be installed and now the door is heavier than it should be, compared to others of the same model. Hot or cold air doesn't seem to flow through all the vents equally or even close to equal. Bolts on the bottom aluminum trim around the trailer are not properly seated flush with the white plastic washer they have on them. Main door was not adjusted properly and has drafts that come in with mild wind. I think there are few more items that I can't seem to remember right now.

My first biggest problem occurred after a little rain when the roof started to leak. After talking to my dealer they said to take it to any Forest River Dealer and the couple of dealers here locally told me to take it to a Work and Play dealer, otherwise I would pay upfront for the repairs and settle with Forest River Warranty after the fact. I contacted a Work and Play dealer in Denver (70 miles away) and they told me that because I didn't buy from them, that I would pay upfront for the repairs as well. They told me that I didn't support local business and bought my trailer online, so they wouldn't help me. I didn't buy my trailer online, I just happened to be driving through Indiana and saw a Work and Play dealer along the way. I moved my family to Pennsylvania and have 3 years left in the Army before I retire. So, I decided that it was in my best interest to buy an RV as opposed to renting an apartment, at least I get to own my RV, instead of throwing the rent money away. While all this happened, I was still waiting for the Service/Warranty tech to come back from vacation at the local Camping World. After a couple of hours of discussion and fact finding, they were able to find out if they could do my warranty work and they did. they got me scheduled that week (emergency-leak because I was/am living in it). They found that the whole front cap of the 5er barely had any sealant/silicone on it and that was where my leak came from. They only fixed this issue as it was the most important on such short notice. All the rest would have to be taken care of on their normal schedule process.

I will try and see if I can't get these items fixed through warranty work. But, it just makes me not want to purchase another Forest River product with the dealings I have had in order to get warranty repairs done and the stories I have heard from Warranty specialists at dealers speaking of slow turn-around on parts that have to be ordered or payment for warranty work that has been done for Forest River products.

Thank you all in advance for hearing my story with my Work and Play trailer that I have been living in for these past 5 months. I'm trying to make it work, but sometimes it just gets the best of me.

James the protocol for F/R Warranty other than your (Original Dealer) is (Contact F/R BEFORE any work is performed, tell them your situation and they will Issue a PO#). Then You PAY the Service Co. for the (FIX?) and send the copy of the (Bill$) to F/R as per instructions in PO# and F/R will reimburse your Money$$. It may take some time,BUT you will receive your Money! If your unit was (In Warranty) and you (Properly Contacted F/R) you should be out (NO Money)! Youroo!!

That protocol may work fine for some but what about a major repair for someone that is strapped for cash?
