Hi!
We are selling our 46' sailboat and looking at purchasing a Signature Ultra Lite Travel Trailer or 5th Wheel ... however we presently own a 2016 Tundra Crew Max 4x4... confused on real towing specs..... anyone towing with like vehicle and can give insight, it would be greatly appreciated!

Depending on the trailer you pick, and its GVWR a 2500 or 3500 SRW might be your choice. Then again a 3500 dually might be what you need.

Welcome to the forum. Check door jam sticker for towing capacities for your vehicle. later RJD

Welcome to FRF!

First, very few 5th wheels are actually 1/2 ton towable.
Mainly because they don't have enough payload capacity for the 5th wheel pin weights.
So check the driver's door yellow sticker for payload capacity and post that amount.
Then check the Tundra's owners manual for towing capacity and post that also.

Almost all tow vehicles run out of payload capacity way before coming close to towing capacity.

Too many newbies focus on towing capacity when payload capacity is much more important.

Agreed!
I can dock, navigate and sail with the best of them, but the towing computations are like Greek. The more I read the more confused...
The GVWR is 7200, vehicle weight 5465.... Towing capacity rating is 9400lbs.....
it looks like a 5th wheel may be out...

It appears that model 8329SS travel trailer may work, but could be at the top end of our limits....
we love the quality and designs of the Ultra Lite, Signature series.....
We may need to go to a larger truck!

You left out the Tundra's PAYLOAD CAPACITY.
The most important towing spec for 5th wheels AND TTs.

That's not very good for a v-8 truck.
That 1430lbs is for any passengers and cargo in the truck.
The lightest Signature 5th wheel has a "dry" pin weight of 1292lbs. So with batteries, propane, water and cargo in the trailer, pin weight could easily exceed your 1430lbs before you put the hitch, passengers and cargo in the truck.

I have a Chevy Avalanche, which are Suburban with a truck bed and my payload capacity is almost the same. I'm pretty maxed out with a TT with a loaded hitch weight around 800lbs.

Probably no way it'll tow any 5th wheel except for a fiberglass Scamp or Escape 5th wheel.

That's what it's looking like....
Thank you for the help! I feel that I now have a much better understanding on the numbers and calculations...
the research will continue!
Thanks Again

You don't have to give up the water to get into an RV.
One More Time Around: Sailboat or Trawler

But with these old trailerable houseboats it usually requires a bit of work/$ to get things safe and reliable.
One More Time Around: Houseboat - 2,000 Miles to Lake Powell
