Full-time in ultralight

I'm planning on fulltiming in a 8528BHWS and a Ram 2500 Cummings, my main considerations for going lite weight is fuel savings and ability to get into camp sites that cannot handle larger trailers. Anyone have experience with fulltiming in a lightweight?

Hi, we have the Rockwood 8281 and a Ram 2500 Cummings, which is West Coast version of the Flagstaff. We haven't full timed it in but have done extended trips in it with our 3 good size dogs. As far as towing and camping no issues. We did have an issue with the IRV66 radio, which has now been resolved. Looking forward to a 3 month trip later this year.

Should not have any issues as far as getting a campsite. Just need to ask when makeing Rev as to what they can handle. Later RJD

We had a Flagstaff Ultra Lite......until we spent our first winter in Virginia and about froze our hoohoos off.

The thing that makes them "ultra-lite" is that much of the weight savings comes from thin walls and pretty much no insulation anywhere in the rig. If you're following the sun and are going to spend your winters in states bordering the Gulf of Mexico or Southern California, an ultra-lite is the way to go.

Your truck is built for towing heavier rigs and I don't think your fuel savings would amount to enough to forgo your full time comfort. Besides all that, you also may want to compare storage space of one over the other

fuel savings would be minimal if any. You can get a higher end unit without being a huge trailer

I think the point of ultra lites is people can tow them with 1\2 ton trucks.(or so they have you believe)

Don't understand your reasons for an ultralight.
You probably won't see any difference in fuel mileage.
And a non-ultralight of the same length will fit the same.
