Goodbye Airstream

After owning nothing but Airstreams I made the switch to a Coachman 192 RBS. Now I need to forget rivets and get used to self tapping screws. Over the years I have restored two Airstreams, one was a classic motor home, been a moderator on the AS forum absorbed much information from the forum and shared my trials. I am not new to FR after owning Rockwood pop ups in our camper rental business. Our new trailer was purchased after realizing AS had exceeded a realistic cost. We wanted to downsize our 32 foot and our new 22 foot is perfect. My TV is a 2000 Excursion with a 7.3 diesel, just a hitch and nothing more. I love the simplicity of just hooking up and driving away.

One diesel Exy owner to another..

Make sure you don't wear your truck out pulling that thing! LOL. I bet it don't even know its there. Someone from the "weight police" will come along shortly and try to tell you that you need a weight-distributing hitch (WDH). With a hitch weight of 392 lbs and a GVW of under 6K, I think just a normal ball-hitch is fine. I tow way more tongue weight on my flatbed trailer without a WDH and it does just fine.

Welcome!

tim

Yes most likely not need a WDH with the weight you have.
Your flat bed trailer is a totally different animal TT do not tow well as compared to boat, car trailers as the weights can be adjusted to avoid using WDH. I towed a lot of trailers over the years and yep no WDH till I got a TT, Later RJD

Welcome to the FR Land, and to that whole 'nuther universe ... like you said, self tapping (and wood) screws instead of rivets.

We would present you with a special welcome gift of a #2 Square Drive "Robertson" Screwdriver

Every time we see an AS (Airstream) go by, or parked at the camp ground, we admire it ... they are still art. Cried for our neighbor when the hail came through some weeks back ... but we saw it get towed off and suspect it will be beautiful again when it returns.
