Greetings form California

After years of talking about it and saving up for it, we purchased our first camp trailer - a Rockwood Mini Lite 1901. It's a great little rig and we just returned from our first week of camping with our little cabin on wheels. I found this forum via Forestriver's web site and joined up once we made our purchase.

We are already planning our next trip in a few weeks - a weekend get away! Weekend get aways will be our primary use with a couple of longer spring, summer or fall trips.

It's good to be part of the community!

Hello, and to the forums. Hope you enjoy the stay, and learn a lot, and can teach others what you already know. I am curious, you said you found this forum via Forrest River website. Could you supply that link please? I've been all over tat site and have never seen it.

Terier's got it... I went looking for the link and began to wonder if I was mistaken... but alas as Terier points out the link to Forest River Forums is actually on the FROG site on the "Useful Links" page. The link to FROG is in the top right corner of any of the Forest River pages listed under "Recreational Vehicles".

Welcome to FRF, from a fellow NorCal'er!

just a question, are you planning on towing it with the Kia?
max tow capacity is 3500lbs., IF it has the factory tow package and the 1901 has a GVWR above that.

what does the yellow sticker on the trailer say the factory weight of it is?

Hi Dan, Thanks for the caution. I did a lot of research on this. Actually the dry weight of the 1901 taken form the yellow label on the trailer and confirmed at a certified scale is 2885lbs which still leaves room for several hundred pounds of stuff in the trailer. The issue I have to pay attention to is the axle weight on the Kia and after outfitting the trailer and using an appropriate weight distribution hitch I'm within specs.

The Sorento actually has a 5000lbs tow rating everywhere else in the world except US and i believe Canada.

I actually have a 5000lbs tow package on the Kia. We won't be doing cross country towing for sure, but for the short trips we take it handles the load quite well.

We have the previous model called ETC 181. Fully loaded scale gives me 462 lbs on hitch using Equalizer E2 WDH. The Murphy/dinnete adds a lot to tongue wt! Watch the payload in Kia as it gets used up quickly

Enjoy your new TT

... thanks for all the helpful advice... I'm a commercial driver and have spent years dealing with weight limits and load distribution albeit on rigs with limits substantially higher than my little Kia. We don't have the dinnete in this unit - there is a couch though and the dry hitch weight is under 350. As I mentioned earlier, I have a class III hitch (5000/500) and with my Andersen 3324 "no sway" WD hitch i get great weight distribution across all three axles well within the limits. True, though, we have to travel light... but it's just the two of us
