Actually IMO that's the problem. The government isn't in control anymore, hasn't been since about 2003. That's when it went private and is subsidized by the government. So now its all about profit to them, it should go back under government control, be a part of the ministry of highways and get hs from A to B with as little cost as possible. No frills, just a ride.
We are thinking of going over in a couple of weeks to visit the MIL in chilliwack and show off the newest member of the family (6 weeks old) but for the 5 of us its about $180 to go over and back, like what!?
