Greetings from CA - Picking up our 261BHXL this weekend!

Hello Everyone! Excited to have found this forum! We are picking up our new 261BHXL this weekend and we are very excited! We live in the Bay Area so campsites get booked months in advance - we have already reserved a weekend in Tahoe area for June, a regional campground closer to us for July and a weekend in the Yosemite area at the end of August!

We are a family of 4 - me, my husband and 2 boys (age 4 and 11 months).... can't wait to get out there and enjoy some nature, but still have some comfort along the way. We used to be big hikers/campers before the kids came along and we figure a trailer is going to be a great way to still enjoy the outdoors but have a bit of convenience and comfort for the kids. Our goal is to use it at least once per month. We'll see how we go!

Looking forward to sharing stories and getting to know everyone here!

Michelle

Thanks for the Welcome! First hiccup - the Weight Distribution Hitch that we bought off of Amazon arrived yesterday - but the box it came in was completely destroyed and there were lots of bolts/screws/nuts missing... There's not enough time for the seller to ship us a new WDH so I'm trying to see if the RV dealer we are working with will match their price.

This box weighed like 80 lbs and it looked like it had been kicked around like in that scene from Ace Ventura Pet Detective... anyone know what I'm talking about? LOL.

Congrats and welcome from another Bay Area owner! There are a few WDH on the local Craigslist, might get you by until they ship you a new one... We camped in Yosemite during spring break twice over the last 3 years in a truck camper and had a great time, just have to be ready for the occasional snow storm. August should be awesome if it isn't too crowded.

We have 2 girls under 2 and we got a trailer for all the same reasons that you did. I think you will make tonnes of memories that your kids will cherish.

Welcome to the forum

We ended up getting a WDH from Camping World yesterday and got our trailer today! Actually, we changed our minds last minute - from advice we read on this forum. We are using a Jeep Grand Cherokee as a tow vehicle and decided that even though the 261BHXL is within our tow capacity (it was 4300 lbs and our tow capacity is 6200), it was probably too long for comfort. So, we got the 201BHXL instead. It's really similar to the 261 except shorter because the 201 has a loft bed, and the bunks are slightly different.

Really feel good about that decision - plus being under 25 ft overall opens up more campsites for us!
