Greetings to everyone!
Hello everyone. Just joined the forum and thought I would say hello and introduce myself and my family. My name is Glenn and I have been blessed with my wonderful wife, Beth. We have two incredible children, David and Audra who are ten year old twins. We reside in Phoenix AZ.
We are not new to Forest River or RVing. We took possession of our 2006 Rockwood 8281SS fifth wheel in May of 2006. It replaced our previous hybrid (expandable) travel trailer. Our tow vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Power Wagon.
I am looking forward to the discussions here.

Ive never been to arizona, closest ive been was camping in the santa fe mountains between santa fe NM and Durango Colorado

Welcome to the site. I was out there to visit my cousin a couple years back. It's great that you are camping, we have to wait till April here. This is a great place for the info and knowledge you will recieive.

I have a Uncle who lives in Gilbert, he loves it out there. He moved there from Philly, about 30 years ago. We will be visiting them in Oct. this year.

Nice looking Camper.
I am curious about the rather large rack assembly that appears to be mounted to the rear bumper. Do you have any details about that, how it's mounted, and maybe some other pictures?

It is a gear box from Let's Go Aero:
GearDeck 17 Towable Generator Carrier - Let's Go Aero - Generator STO Cargo Carrier (GearDeck™ 17)
It's primary purpose is carrying our two Honda EU2000i generators. Even with both generators in it there is still room that I use to carry firewood and extra containers for water. It keeps them protected from the elements unlike the open racks and out of sight and locked. It fits into the receiver hitch I installed on the rear of the fifth wheel. Because it uses a receiver hitch, I can use it with the Durango, Power Wagon or any vehicle with a receiver hitch for additional cargo space. It telescopes out so the hatchback or tailgate of a vehicle can be opened. I have been very happy with it.

Thanks for the info. That looks like a very well designed product!
After much reading on this forum (and others), I have reservations about adding anything to the rear bumper of a trailer. Can I assume you added your receiver hitch by welding it to the frame of your trailer?

Yes, the receiver hitch is welded to the frame. I don't use the hitch for towing anything, just for the Gear Deck or a bicycle rack if needed.

Hello Glenn and Welcome! Had to chime in here and say hello since we both have the same model camper, just a year difference in age ('07). My wife and I purchased ours new in 2009 to upgrade from a popup. Needed more space for our 2 daughters. Have been very pleased with it so far, only a few issues here and there, but nothing too major. Where do you keep the spare tire now?

It is good to hear from a fellow 8281SS owner. It is a great floor plan for families. We had kind of a rough start with ours, but Forest River stood behind their product and got everything right. I will give them credit for that. It has been trouble free now for several years. I keep the spare tire in the front storage compartment. It has worked well for us so far.

Glenn,
Yes, have to agree on the floorplan. It's one of the many factors that drove us to purchase this model. We too had a rough first year getting several manufacturing issues resolved, but nothing that the dealer could not easily repair under warranty. The second year (last year) was much easier and hoping this coming season will be the same.
