Hello from Alabama

Just bought our first camper in April! Our family has been out 3 times; just to local state parks and loving it. We have been to Oak Mtn, Lake Gunterville, and Windcreek. Lake Gunter is by far our favorite thus far. Very mellow...

Hello and welcome aboard! Local state parks are great choices too. What is it about Lake Gunter that stands out above the other two parks? Just curious.

Just a laid back park. There are tree's in the campsites and the kids have great loops to ride their bikes. Our favorite spot thus far, but I know there is so much more out there...

Welcome fellow Ala , There are some great people here. If you want to venture out check out Joe Wheeler SP. Stayed there several years ago and remember it being a pretty nice park.

Hello from Maryland but my DW is from Locust Fork AL. Back when we lived in AL and owned a boat we spent every weekend on Guntersville. The Smokies are really not far from you and has several great options for camping.

Have you been camping in the Smokies? If so, where do you recommend?

welcome fellow Alabamian, glad you are enjoying your TT. I want to check out Lake Guntersville and Windcreek sometime. we went to DeSoto State park last year, plan to go back. We had planned to go to Gulf State park next week not sure if we will go now due to weather. We have been to GSP three times in last 2 years. we go to several corp of engineer parks in west Alabama.

Welcome to the forums...

We're not far from the Bama line in Mississippi. Over the years have camped at most all of the State parks in Bama, but it's been a few years. Enjoyed all of them back then though. Here are a few not too far from you...

Cheaha
Alabama State Parks (highest point in Bama, pretty park, nice area too)

Lake Lureleen
Alabama State Parks (have spent many nights at this park over the years, really pretty in the Fall, but avoid during a Bama home game unless you're going to the game )

Lakepoint Resort Alabama State Parks (another beautiful park on a great fishing lake)

Just north of you Tennessee has some great State parks as well..
