Hello from AZ

Just wanted to see if I can get some input on my next purchase.
I am debating between a 2014 Salem and a 2009 open range.
Both have bad reviews and I am starting to worry as if I am making a bad choice with Forrest river fifth wheels. Please any advice will be appreciated. I don't want to make the typical "newbie" mistake and buy something and later find out it was a bad choice. Thanks

I think the most important question that needs to be answered is what do you want to do when you get there? And, how long can you stand to be cooped up in a small space with your significant other? That will then guide you to how much you might need to spend.

Welcome from Wisconsin. By now I would think the initial bugs have been worked out on both campers considering their age. Alot would depend on their condition and how well they have been maintained. Ask questions like when were the brakes and bearings last service? How does the roof look? Look very closely for any signs of water intrusion. Check frame for signs of rust. Lots of other stuff to look at.

Hi, thanks for your input, we are using the trailer as a vacation unit (weekends to a week ) at one time it's my wife and my son traveling. I own my own business so can't leave for long periods of time. I just have reading that the quality of this trailers is very poor. However I haven't seen one yet with my own eyes to be able to judge. We are going this weekend to select the one we want.

Thanks for the advice on what to look for, we decided we are going to purchase thru private party instead of the dealership. This way we can also check for any problems it may already have plus get more bang for my buck. What's your thoughts on that. Will keep you guys updated on which one we ended up with.

That is a tough call on buying privately, you should hope that a dealership would have fixed any problems on the used unit and provide some kind of warranty.

Of course that depends on the dealership. If it were me and I was buying used I would try and get the trailer inspected by someone to make sure there aren't any problems.

I have been doing some research on things to look for when buying a used RV, and hope I do a good inspection myself. Taking a thermostat gun, voltmeter, and will ask the current owners to run all electric mechanisms. I know is a risk but just hate to pay 5 or 6k on sales tax when I can use that money towards the actual unit. However we will stop at camping world just to see if maybe we can find a deal plus I have heard so much about it I have to check it out.
