Well, if you are coming from Hot Springs headed to Austin you will (should) not pass thru Fort Worth unless you are taking the scenic route.

Only ones I know of are the COE (Corps Of Engineers) or State Parks, there are quite a few in the DFW area and areas surrounding and heading South.
Let me know the route and I can point out several along the way for ya.

I have no idea about any of the private or KOA type CG's as we have never stayed at any of those.

Time permitting and in the area on the week end, Traders Village has a RV park. Located in the mid cities just off Hwy 360 in Grand Prairie. Traders Village is a very large flea market and worth a days time to walk through. Look up on the web and happy travel to Austin

The "North Texas" label for Amarillo is somewhat confusing IMO also. I lived in Lubbock at one time and that area was called the South Plains.

I was a Federal Employee and would stay overnight in Amarillo and soon learned that Amarillo encompasses both Potter and Randall counties (sp) and the Per Diem rate was different for each county, so it made a difference what county your hotel was.

I spent 6 mos. in Amarillo back in 1967. Went to Air Force basic training and tech school there, March-August. Really, no desire to go back.
