Hello from Chillicothe, Mo

We just brought our 2014 Rockwood Mini Lite home from Rossford, Ohio, over 800 miles. We had a new stabilizing hitch and sway bar installed on our Tacoma before we started the journey home. This is our first camper after 44 years of tent camping and we are thrilled. The Mini Lite is perfect for our retirement years. Any suggestions for improved gas mileage would be appreciated. Can't wait until spring.

Welcome to the forums from SW Idaho.
Speed is relevant.
65 MPH or less when towing, cruise control when it is safe to use.

Other hints not always possible.

Tow with a tail wind when going down hill.

Seriously, lower MPG's are one of the prices we all pay.

Last trip I was at 10.1-2 for 1600 miles in Oregon.

Towed at the posted speed only 65 freeway and 55 on state roads.

Welcome to the forum. Congrat on your camper purchase. As mentioned best fuel ecocomy will be driving less than 65 mph. also a lot depends on your gear ratio in your tv. Later RJD

Hi ... we're from around Bogard just 20 miles south of Chillicothe so I know the area. Sadly most all the department stores and others we grew up with on and off the square are long gone just like Carrollton. At least there's a Wally World ... Ha!
Towing an RV always comes with reduced milage ... generally about half of towing empty. Like said speed makes a difference ... easy on the throttle helps as well. Correct tire pressure and not carrying stuff you'll never use to lighten the load are other things to consider.

welcome to FRF!

yep, not much you can do to increase gas mileage. you're towing a barn door through the air. air resistance affects mpg way more than the trailer's weight.

all gassers will get between 8-11mpg average towing a TT.

The only thing that I have found to successfully lower mpg was to slow down to 55mph for example.

Welcome from an ex-Trentonite. Was born, raised and married in Trenton, MO. We are now in Davenport, FL until Mar and then will return home to Concord, NC.

Left in 1958 to go to Rolla to college, came back in 1960 to get married and left until 1985, worked for Modine for 5 yrs and left again, never to return except to visit occasionally. No family left there, so we probably made our last trip there 2 yrs ago for DW's 55th class reunion.
