Hello From Coastal North Carolina

Just recently purchased a 2017 Salem 27 REI for the family. We are first time RV owners and have taken the unit out 2 times now and absolutely love it. Wanted to say Hello to all.

I do have one question, I needed to get some service work done for some items we noticed while using the RV, is it normal for the dealer to keep the RV for an extended time. Been gone over a week now at the dealer with no finish date.

Pretty darn normal for high season.
My dealer is so busy with sold units, they are not taking on any units they didn't sell.
You can't expect quick turnaround times, during the summer and the hottest RV sales in history.

Hello and welcome from central NC. A week is nothing at RV dealers. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't even looked at your unit yet. Where did you take it?

Welcome to the Forum. Congratulations on your purchase! I hope you have lots of fun years in it!

As for the waiting, this time of year, it is pretty normal. We are picking ours up today, for what should have been a day job (they had it a little over a week). They really are swamped. The pace goes down a bit around October. So, if you can hold off getting things done, Oct-Mar is usually good...except in snowbird land.

Greetings from the Piedmont of NC~Charlotte area.

I also just purchased my first TT. My dealer told me up front that this summer has been nuts for sales (and service). He has 3 mechanics and 2 service techs and he's still 3 weeks out for minor repairs. (Which I'll just do myself anyway). He said, up front, warranty work can be hard to get done. Some manufacturers will ONLY reimburse on a 90 day payment schedule. So the dealers have to wait 3 months to get paid. Not hard to understand why they'll delay it.
I had a cool salesman...he gave me a few tips on how some dealers would try to add on charges (sure enough CW tried to pull it on me). He also suggested..no matter who you buy your TT from...to call the Service Department and tell them you're a new <insert brand> owner and you had some minor items you'd like to get fixed. He suggested that if the Service Department is any good they'll ask many questions and try to schedule it as soon as they could. Of the dealers I called, 4 or 5 service centers were NOT empathetic and , like many have said, not really interested in doing warranty work. That doesn't mean they won't BS you...but the "I could care less" really came through on a few calls.
