Hello from Colorado Springs!

HI! We are Tom and Kim! We are 1st time RV'rs and are getting a 2010 Rockwood Ultra Lite 2304S this Saturday. We are excited to be joining the world of travel and looking forward to making a lot of new friends along the way! We will be traveling with 2 kids. A 20 year old daughter and 12 year old son. They are looking so forward to new adventures too. Oh and a dog, Penny, also! Any tips or advice is most welcome! thanks!

Welcome from Southern Illinois. As far as tips go, you came to the right place.

My only tip is to keep your initial spending for items to "must haves" until you get your feet wet. We used items from the house to supply the camper and spent the money on new stuff for the house.

Investigate and invest in power protection so a bad electrical system in a campground does not cost you unwanted expenses.

You have got a lot to learn and this place is a good start. Keep asking questions.

Welcome. Love your area and will be coming your way in June. Thinking of staying at the KOA off 25. Do you have any suggestions?

Cheyenne Mountain State Park is another option local to Colorado Springs. Some availability in June, just depends on travel dates.

Mueller State Park is our go-to option from Colorado Springs, 45 min away depending on traffic.

Welcome from Pennsylvania.

I would suggest taking you "new" Rockwood for a short shakedown camping trip near where you live. This will allow you to determine what are your "must haves" and nice to have. I agree with Wobbles to initially stock your trailer from your house. Later you can buy those items you find you use the most in the trailer.

Welcome from a Colorado Springs couple who are diehard boondock campers. If you are interested in getting away from it all and exploring the back country, give us a holler.

There are boondock areas as close as Rampart Range and some need spots near Round Mountain, Marshal Pass, Cottonwood pass, Tincup, Taylor Park, etc...etc...

All you need is a generator, a minimum of 2 RV deep cycle batteries, and a sense of adventure.

BTW, if you run up to Briargate to say Hi to my grandkids, say Hi to me also. I'm here too! Granddaughter's high school graduation is tomorrow.

I'm with dblr.........need to find some spots around here for future trips. We did the Royal Gorge train ride yesterday and saw a bazillion campers coming out of somewhere. State Park around Canon City I suppose, not sure.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Looks good, but I'm betting it's booked till 2048.

With the big rig truck I tend to avoid the state parks. Probably the best campgrounds but also the tightest

Really?

Our state parks are quite spacious. Way more than any private campground.
