Hello from Illinois

New to this forum but not RVing or camping or campering as we call it. We're headed west next month to visit the Black Hills in SD and Devils Tower in WY.

We did that in 2009 when we had a POP-UP. Also, went to the Grand Tetons & Yellowstone.
Where are you staying?

to the FRF! I think you might had answer that question about if RVing is really camping. Guess the answer is campering.

In Hill City, we stayed at Rafter J Bar Ranch-beautiful!
And Devil's Tower KOA- which was OK- but the tower was right behind us.
Nice to see someone new from Illinois on here. Have a great trip!

Welcome. We did that same trip in '07 with a 1 night stop at the Badlands along the way. We did the obligatory stop at the Corn Palace on the way back. Make sure you do the night fireworks at Mt Rushmore.

We did a similar trip back in 05. although we went all the way to Glacier NP to meet my cousins. they moved to Kalispell MT from Crystal Lake IL. we stayed at Flintstones Campground in Custer SD. OK campground, nice little Flinstones theme park out front. on the way back we stayed at Horsethief Campground near Hill City, on Needles HWY. we loved that campground, beautiful Black Hills setting.

Where are you from in IL. we live in Bartlett.

Edit: I see from the pics in your Blog we keep our trailers at the same storage yard, funny! I have the the covered trailer in the other back corner of the yard.

Have a great trip!

Hello again! Was just checing out your Blog again. I see we go to some of the same campgrounds. We go to the Amboy Jellystone religously for the Columbus day Halloween weekend, do you still go there? and yes I too remeber the mid 2o`s back in 09!!! BRRRR. we also do Sunset Lakes for Labor Day weekend. we always get the same sites 98 and 99? or 99 and 100? looks like you get the same site my buddy gets with the big weeping willow behind you/him. I always get the site right next to the power pole with the guide wire. We`ve also stayed at Hickory Hollow for Memorial day weekend 2 years ago, great place!

Take care!
Kevin

Thanks Kevin, we haven't been back to that Yogi's since 2009. There were a few busted water lines that weekend. They do have a great Halloween weekend for the kids though.

We like Sunset lakes and will probably try and go there again. They must keep those sites open for the weekenders that want lakeside with power. The last time we were there a microburst came through just before we arrived. We towed down 88 through the storm! Some of your friends packed up and left due to awning/camper damage. We stuck it out for three nights and were without power for a day or so. The park refunded our deposit, didn't charge us for the weekend and offered us a discount on our next stay!

Hickory Hallow was a last minute open weekend trip for us. We might head back there again someday. Nice people. We're slammed with two kids in travel soccer these days so we have to jump on open weekends when we can.

Happy campering!
