For an area close campground that can easily take our 35 foot Puma Unleashed we stay at Mayberry Campground quite a bit. No frills but super nice people

That's about a stone's throw from us. I haven't been in the park, but can see it from White Plains. Do you get to see the beautiful sunsets inside the campground that you can see when you cross I74 in White Plains?

Yes you do get the beautiful sunsets but the down side is the traffic noise from the interstate can bother some but the lower sites it is not as noticable but it doesn't bother me.

Benny the owner is a decendant of Eng & Chang Bunker the family farm house on site was not theirs but had been in their family. I'm sure they would let you drive through to check it out. They are still in a building process but have over 100 camp sites (some are small some are huge). Check out their web site............... around $33 a night (last year).

I had wondered about the noise. And I didn't know that about the owner - how interesting. Anything else around us that you like?

Haven't been in awhile Goose Point on Philpott Lake small only about 20-30 sites was Ok.

DO NOT WASTE your time on Dan River Campground near Stoneville NC the owner is a real piece of work & the campground is run down.

I hate to say it the last couple of years most of or camping has been at Mayberry & Ocean Lakes (usually in the off season)near Myrtle Beach.

We have kind of limited ourselves due to trailer size. Our kids are grown but will camp with us from time to time. Being a toyhauler we take the Golf Car to Ocean Lakes with us & the camper has 5 queen size beds (includes the dinette).

Thanks Oaklevel - I'll add Goose Point to my research.

We like Bandit's Roost on the lake in Wilkesboro. It's pretty, big trees so alot of shady sites. Very few in the sun all day long. And it's close to Wilkesboro if you need something or for something to do.

And we made a trip to Spruce Pines and Smith Mtn Lake. Smith Mtn Lake was pretty but a ways to go for our two little ones. Spruce Pine area is great - close to Mt. Mitchell and Grandfather.
