Hello from NW Missouri!

Hi all, new to the site- just found it after doing some searching.

My family and I recently purchased a 2011 Salem 26TBUD and are loving it. We had a 1990 Jayco 250 Special and as good a camper as that was, this one is soooo much better.

At the walk around, I really did not learn much about the maintenance. It was happening too quickly. What can you all tell me about the slide? Any real maintenance to be done there? Also, do we need a slide support for when the slide is out?

So far, so good. We picked it up on 7/1/11 and camped in it through 7/5/11 and have had it out another time since. Next trip is scheduled for 8/5/11 and we cannot wait.

Thanks to all!

Welcome to the forum. Another Missourian here. As for the slide support--I can't offer an expert opinion but I am thinking about getting them for our trailer. We have two slides and I think time will eventually tell me that we will need them. Probably won't get them for this season (we just got our trailer in May) but will try to pick them up over the winter.

You will get a lot of great advice through this forum and there are some real experts here who are always willing to help. Keep the slide lubricated and the seals treated.

Thanks for the reply Randy. What do you use to treat the seals? For that matter, do you have a recommended slide lubricant?

I do appreciate the help.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new camper!

As far as slide out lubricants, this seems to be a popular choice:

Slide-Out Dry Lube Protectant - Protect All

Hey Murph, so far I am using the stuff the dealer gave us in our starter kit. Everyone here recommends using "dry" lubes because anything oily will collect dirt and road grime which gets in your gears and slides. I'm sure wherever you find slide lubes you will find the seal treatment spray as well.

John and Pandra--we'll be down there Aug 4-7--Indian Point campground.

Indian Point C.O.E. is a very nice campground near Silver Dollar City. We stay at the campsites on the loop to the right(sites # in the 70's)after entering the park entrance. No view of the water, but quiet and a very clean bathrooms/shower building there. We'll be staying at Indian Point this fall visiting the National Harvest Festival at (The City)with all the craftsman there. Usually also bring down the boat for some fishing and to see the fall foliage around the lake.

We will be at site 66. When is the National Harvest Festival? That sounds interesting

no to the slide supports.
that's an old concept that's no longer needed with modern slideouts that are engineered to not require supports.
the early slideouts/tipouts were not engineered well.

We've been twice to Indian Point in July...site 43 at the first of the month and site 10 just this last weekend. We really like the looks of the uper loop but no openings either time we were wanting to camp. Must need res. well in advance for any of those sites? Swimming beach is nice there too!

I guess we got lucky getting this site. Made the reservation a couple of weeks ago. We drove through the campground back in the spring just before we bought our trailer. I was hoping to be right on the water but we'll take this one (site 66) and check it out. I plan on being in the water a lot just to try and stay cool.

We have camped at Watkins Mill and we used to camp at Big Lake quite often. This year we have been spending a fair amount of time at Mozingo.

Greetings Nigel & Bev!!! So good to hear from you! Hope all is well and you're somewhere not getting baked!! I have been in Branson for work today & will also tomorrow. Very hot, just like here in Springfield(108 degrees!) Oh, I know why you didn't see any hillbillies, they are all working at Silver Dollar City robbing the train or telling jokes at The Baldknobbers Show! Be careful if you are in this heat!
