Hello from NW PA

Greetings from snowy NW PA! We're new to 5th wheels, after 3 years motorhome RVing. Looking forward to getting our new 2013 F250 6.75' bed (Mar. 1 delivery) and finally picking up our new Crusader 260RLD.

Last step is getting a sliding hitch, that will give appropriate clearance over the F250's tailgate (Ford spec's 56-57 in. tailgate height, 20 in. tall side rails/tailgate). We kept 17 in. tires to help w/ clearance. We're interested in hearing from anyone with similar rigs.

Happy to be part of the forum.

Hello and welcome to the forum. We also are from snowy NW PA. Ever hear of Strattanville? We have a2009 F250 4x4 crew cab with the 5.4, would prefer the 6.2 though. We bought a 2013 Sabre Silhouette 290refd fifthwheel and love it. We had a Reese sliding hitch installed by the dealer and it seems to work fine. Happy camping.

Thanks for the wishes, and yes, we pass Strattanville frequently heading east on I-80.

Glad to hear the Reese slider is working. I omitted from my original post that we're getting the 5th wheel prep, and understand that it's part of the Reese Elite system and only the Reese Elite hitch model fits directly into the 4 bed pucks. We're trying to determine if the 18K Elite with slider would be tall enough to appropriately hitch, clearing the 20 in. tall tailgate. The Elite says 14-18 in. height adjustment. We want to have good clearance and tow as level as possible.

Another option might be using the Reese Rail Kit Mounting Adapter (part # 30156), which says it works w/ any standard 5th wheel hitch, to give more choice of hitch brands, but I may have to call Reese to see what brands are compatible, and also if a slider can be used with that adapter. We're hoping someone on the forum may have feedback on the adapter with a non-Reese hitch.

Only 3 months until spring!?

Hi there and welcome aboard! This is a pretty friendly site so others should be able to share. If things stay quiet you might try posting in another forum directed more towards your rig & setup.
