Smile Hello from Southern Alberta

Just wanted to say hello...I was using the Forest River forum as an observer but read so many good items that I just had to register myself. My wife & I are newbies in the RV scene. Just purchased a 27 foot Forest River Sun Seeker Motorhome. We are looking to hit the Yukon & Alaska this coming August & then Wyoming, Dakotas, and Montana next summer.

I used to be Tourism Director with northern Travel Alberta so would be happy to answer any questions for our good friends in the U.S. of A.

Safe travels!

Welcome!

Many great memories of visiting a friend in Stony Plains (Edmonton) and fishing Calling Lake, Lesser Slave, etc.

Road is paved to turnoff and then there's 5 km of gravel... Cell coverage stops just past the town of Beaver Mines..

Fishing is pretty good.. Rainbow trout and the odd bull trout.. Gets a little weedy later in the season, but haven't been out yet..

Campground is great IMO... No services.. There's water pumps around the campgound, but not sure it is potable.. Larger trailers might be an issue.. Ours is 26' and we typically stay in the D loop up top.. The A loop has quite a few nice spots in it too.. B and C might be snug for ours and usually fills up first as it is next to the lake...

There's a few decent hikes in the area. And you're a short drive to do some more exploring - Castle Falls, Castle Mountain Ski Hill, Beauvais Lake, Frank Slide, Crowsnest Pass to name a couple.. It is in the "Crown of the Continent" area...

Is there something more specific you are looking for? I live about 30 minutes from Beaver Mines Lake...

Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful, whacky world of camping. Another 18 days and we head out to the Waterton area for 2 weeks and then up to west of Rocky Mountain House for a few weeks of dry camping near the Big Horn Dam area with our oldest son and then onto St. Albert for a month of bonding with our two grandsons. Hope the fuel situation is resolved by then or at least diesel fuel isn't in short supply. Stay safe.

If you're heading up to RMH via the 22 fill up with diesel at Westward Ho (about 5km east of Sundre). I passed there yesterday and diesel was at 79.9 per litre. The pumps are open and easily accessible to a truck towing a trailer or full sized 5er.
The place is on the north side of the 22 about 1km west of hwy 27.

Thanks for the info Hutch. We'll be heading up the Cowboy Trail as usual but I carry 86 gallons of fuel so we'll be good to RMH where we'll probably stock up on our food stuffs and fuel before heading west from there. Diesel cost here is 91.9 right now. Gas and diesel prices go up and down like a toilet seat. Our son just sold their house in Edmonton yesterday so hopefully they'll be good to go for the camping trip.
