Hello from the frozen north.

Hello fellow campers. Me and the wife are researching several 5vers. The Columbus th and the prime time crusader are among the list of possibles. Would like to know owners opinions of them. I know all units have ups and downs, but would like to know if there is a certain defect that would make a new buyer stay away. Thanks for any input you have.

We have a Crusader - first year owning have only had one blown light bulb and a kinked hose on water pump - both stupid easy to fix

Have the extended warranty but hope to never need it 👍

Hello, we just purchased a Rockwood 8289ws Platinum package 5th wheel. Sold the Class C Sunseeker and we are loving it. Took it out twice before putting it to sleep for the winter. We love the layout of it. Just the wife and myself with the dogs. We have 2 college boys, and if they decide to come with us its enough room.

I have a 2014 Ford F150 Ecoboost and so far I have had no issues with power or performance. Out of the 2100 miles I put on the truck, I towed 800. That's pretty good.

Check the models out. Good prices also.

Thanks for the responses. I've been looking (dreaming) for years now, and finally are in a position to get one and finding one that has everything on the list is getting harder to do. The more time passes, the better the 5vers get.

Acquired the Prime Time Crusader Touring Edition in July and have been out several times. A few minor issues were quickly repaired, and currently waiting for 2 replacement parts on order. Love the unit, tows solid and is a perfect floorplan, great finishes. Love it so far!!

Rigpdx, the Crusader 351 REQ is one on my list. Do you have the res fridge, and if so how does it effect battery life?

Second the Trailer and the Ecoboost. Excellent performer and matched TT/ TV for capacities.

Smitty,

We have the residential fridge. I'm probably not the one to answer the battery draw question for you...perhaps another owner will chime in.

So far I have only traveled within 2 hours of Portland to various State Parks, all of which are fully serviced. My first 'dry camp' with generator will most likely not be until next summer in Calgary. Unless I try a trial run beforehand.

However, I must say that when I arrive at the storage facility and hook up, I switch on the fridge and the inverter, and by the time I am at the park the fridge is really cold...it has a 'rapid cool' feature. Way faster than the RV fridge in my previous trailer.

What kind of generator are you going to use with yours? That's my other research area.

I have a yamaha ef3000ise. It is brand new and I haven't even started it yet...makes me think I really need to do a trial run on dry camping before my summer trip!!

Personally, and I know there are all kinds of opinions on this, but my choices were either yamaha or honda. For me it was about minimizing impact to surrounding campers, and these are the most quiet for what I have observed first hand.

I was debating on either built in or the dual Honda 2000's. The 3000 weights too much. We go dry camping 9 days every year and the rest of the time probably won't need it.

Hi the, just browsing and saw you are planning on camping in Calgary. I live just NW of there and just want to warn you that campgrounds immediately around Calgary are terrible. If you want a decent RV campground with services come to Cochrane. The Bow River CG is about the best in the area. I've never stayed there (only ten minute walk from my house so it's too close for me to camp there) and have absolutely no connection with the CG, I just visited friends while they camped but it is easily the best for miles around. It's about 25 miles or 35 minutes to downtown Calgary from here

If I go for the occasional weekend we head about 60 miles straight north to Sundre and stay at Coyote Creek Golf & RV resort.

Otherwise, it's a pretty poor selection in the Calgary area.

Thanks for the tip!! I dry camp for 5 days with a group out east of Calgary, but plan on hanging around for the Stampede. I'll check out the Cochrane CG. I grew up in Calgary, so am not familiar with campgrounds as I had a home to live in

No real issues. We use our water all winter long. Last year we had an issue with freezing of the lines running to the galley sink. Not a huge deal, a hair dryer would thaw it. The valves for the most part worked. In very cold weather I had some freezes (below minus 15C). Patience and running the furnace dealt with that. We had our rig back to the motherland for a number of issues this past summer and we had the lines running to the galley insulated and I had tank heaters installed. That should sort out any cold weather issues going forward.

Have a Columbus 320rs with residential refrigerator. Remarkable setup. Installed a second battery to help. Also installed an Onan genny so we can survive outside of campgrounds.
