Hello from Wilshire England

Hi My wife and I want to tour the US and purchase a Ultralite 8289WS and truck for use on tour. On completion of tour about 6 months, export it back to the UK.
I would be very interested for any advise or help with this venture. I love america and have made several visits. We have owned several touring trailers, and feel it's time to be an RVer with an American truck.
Regards

Hello from Sunny (sunny and cool today) Florida.

Before deciding on a toyhauler, I had looked at the Rockwood Ultra. Nice floor plan; excellent choice.

I found this for a unit like that:
Dry Hitch Weight 1,524 lbs. (691 kg)
Unloaded Vehicle Weight 7,793 lbs. (3,535 kg)
GVWR 9,350 lbs. (4,241 kg)
Cargo Carrying Capacity 1,557 lbs. (706 kg)

I want to recommend a capable half ton (they all are not) but for me this unit is too heavy... again for me. There are some out there that could do it. F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboast with max tow and max towing for example; especially considering fuel costs over there. You have probably innocently opened Pandora's box.

My choice would have been a nice year or two old gasoline, 3/4 ton (F250, or 2500 in Ram and Chevy brands), again for me.

This comes from a guy with a Cummins diesel who also has towed with a half ton that simple was not fun.

I would also look first for a private seller with title in hand.

Thanks to all who have replied.
I need an ultralite 8289WS as this is the largest 5er that I can tour with. Our rules are set by EU total nonsense. Would there be a preferred state to start looking? I would be coming over around June.

If you are looking for new try OHIO there are a few wholesale dealers there like RVW. The trailers are mainly made around Goshen Indiana so the transportation charges are a lot lower if you buy from a dealer close buy. Kenny is correct about the dollar but the dealers around me have that factored into the price on the new models (as they point out to me over and over again when I was looking last summer), as most of the RV's have to be imported from the US.

I hope you are computer savy or at least familiar with searching... Places to start: RVtrader.com or craigslist (search by city).. You can search by distance searchtempest.com... If looking at new, see what Couch's or RV Wholesalers can do. RVW is Durnell's RV and the owner monitors this site. I bought from them; at the time you could not find a barely used toyhauler and they beat my local dealers by a bunch. Good luck in your search and visit. Let me know if I can help. Cheers!

Love my trumpet. I'll Google what you mentioned. I'd love to have an older mini, if you happen to have one in the barn

As far as we're concerned, you couldn't make a better choice, as you can see by our signature. I know they claim the 8289WS is half-ton towable, but I wouldn't reccomend it. And we preferred the long bed as opposed to the short bed, but that's a personal choice. Just don't go with a half-ton truck, you'll regret it and then have to get a new truck. But one thing you have to remember...

Hello from Wilshire England

Welcome! We have the 8289ws and our tow vehicle is a Dodge 2500 6.4 hemi with the tow package. I wouldn't want to pull this camper with a half ton. By the way we are trading our camper for the 8299bs. We love the 8289ws but the new one addressed the "I wish it had this" issues.
