Hello World

Greetings from SWFL. We are a family of 4 who love the outdoors.

I am here on FRF because we are new owners of a Wildwood 281 QBXL with the outdoor kitchen. We couldn't be happier with the TT having already camped 5 nights in 2014 with 29 more planned in June and July for a National Park trip including Arches, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. We will be somewhat recreating a trip my parents took me on when I was a child in 1977. That was in a VW van, so the TT is like a condo compared to that.

Then:

Now:

I am a mechanical DIY'er so enjoy that aspect of trailer life and like to see all the great mods others have done. I enjoy personalizing our TT. So far I have added a Equal-i-zer hitch, electric hot water element, LED lights throughout and dual battery with cutoff. I am going to modify the closets with shelves and add 12v outlets for the dry camping we will be doing in the parks. I also plan to add a Fantastic fan in the living area. I may plumb a propane stove into the outdoor kitchen on slideouts where the electric mini-fridge sits. I'll use one of my Yeti coolers outdoors instead. I was lucky to get a TST 507rv TPMS and Rand McNally RVND 7710 from a guy on Craigslist for $200 so combined with my kids movies and my iPhone connected AppRadio in the truck I should have electronics covered.

I am considering a blog or running thread here for our trip in order to keep family and friends updated on our preparation and the trip.

Welcome! A blog through Blogger is really easy to setup.

Those bowls that you have, especially the kids ones are really neat!

WELCOME!! Sounds like a great summer. How sweet would it be to still have that Volkswagon van. Old Guys (Brian and Joanne)

Do you still have the VW van? I heard they have really grown in value.

Thank you for the welcomes. That old VW van was sold for a pop up model in the early 80's, which was sold when I was a teenager in the late 80's. My folks have had a few different class C's since.

The wooden plates and bowls are a neat, unbreakable alternative to plastic. The kids plates are a turtle and a fish. I think they were all handmade, we found them at a local curio shop.

We are looking forward to our trip. I have a lot to get done...
