There has been some discussion on another RV site that speaks about these things - some pros and some cons.
As far as your original question - I keep a book in my TV that I log all the maintenance in.
I reserved a section of blank pages in the back of it for tracking the miles the FW is pulled, the date or dates, and the departure location and next destination:
Mileage of TV in ------ on --------(date) at ---------(destination).
Mileage of TV out --------on ---------(date) at -----------(destination) ---------.
I keep a sub total of miles after each trip, add them up when the page is full and carry the grand total on that page over to the next page.
It's a checklist item, so it gets done on each pull out.
Works for me and a lot less expensive than a hub meter.
