Howdy from Texas
I've been cruising around this forum for a while. My family has been hauling around a Passport Ultralite for a while now, however we've made the leap into a fifth wheel. Sierra 355QBQ. Wow, quite a bit bigger, much heavier to tow, but everyone seems to love it. Made the maiden voyage this weekend. There are so many questions I have and so many resources here; I couldn't help but join the forum.
Being a 5er newbie is a little weird, but I'm going to survive.

Bayouownbeer - Best Username in existence.
We actually looked at the Sandpiper first, which is what sold us on the trailer, but all of the dealers were pretty far from home. Recently, a local dealer became a Forest River rep, but was carrying the Sierra line so we convinced him to order one for us and the rest is history.
I see you have a SWB truck also, any problems backing/turning/parking etc...??
I've towed mine twice and really didn't notice anything too scary.
Hope your family is loving that trailer as much as mine. The back bedroom is what's up!!

No problems I have about 3500 miles on it. I brought it home from Ohio in July 1000 miles first trip. Stopped at 4 campgrounds on way home so broke it well. I turned really hard over on a test run just to see, and I could get really close to 90 degrees with the way front cap is designed. I would say 80 to 85. I was surprised and I'm not using a slider. I don't see having any problems backing. Just watch the very back end while turning it swings out due to the axles being centered not to mention 39 ft long. Yeah the back room is what sold us on it as well.

Being from Central Texas, we love NM!!! Been there many times camping, and we love it!! We always long for the "trip west" with the dry air and cool nights.
Glad people are willing to help here, I also want to be able to return the favor as well.

I have several customers in LA, and travel to Monroe all of the time. Where are you in relation?
It's a long haul with just my truck to Monroe, would add an hour or so with the Sierra, but, I think you would like the scenery/camping around here as well. Although LA has a LOT of places to camp as well!!
I'm glad to hear about your turning experiences, I do have a slider hitch, but have not needed/tried it out yet. The trailer is such a beast to back-up, plus I'm having to get used to the difference between bumper pull and fifth wheel. The quickness of break-over is way different. Just takes a little getting used to I guess.

I am 1 hour south of New Orleans near the coast. Right out the city limits of Houma. Yeah it takes some getting use to. Hard to judge the blind side when backing. Not as easy to back as Bumper pull that is what i had also. I do like the easy of hooking/unhooking although.

Yes, hooking/unhooking is WAY better. I guess my son gets the best end of the bargain since he was in charge of much of the bumper pull unhook  . He gets to smugly say "your good", and pull the king pin latch now  .
We'll I guess you closer to my New Iberia customers!! Although it's still a piece from there.
I know ya'll are having a great time in that RV. Hope everything goes well!!
