Introducing myself

We purchased a new 3051S last week and really appreciate all the info I came across as we did our research. We definitely did not plan to purchase a new (or used) unit this year. As nice as newer rigs seemed, the only economically logical decision we could see was to drive our '98 Minnie 'til it died & figured we had another 5 years or so. Unfortunately, it caught fire early this summer as the result of a tread separation on the last (scheduled) day of our 1 month road trip. As soon as the fire was put out, my husband said "I really want to have a motorhome" and I replied "me too". So much for our plans.

We fell in love with this floor plan. Everything has plusses and minuses, but we are happy so far. We purchased a huge fire extinguisher to carry in addition to the one provided in the coach (as that would have made a difference) and plan to carry fire gel also. We are working our way through checking everything out (just matching up all the remotes is a challenge) and "making it ours". I spent yesterday lining drawers and shelves so if anyone needs any measurements, I can probably help out with that.

I am thinking of preventive things to do from the get-go, like lots of eternabond on the roof? And definitely tire pressure monitors. Would also appreciate any input on things people suggest doing right away. There are thousands of ideas on this site and I am reading through everything, but that does take a while. I have other specific things I'm working on and will post my requests for input in the appropriate place if I don't find readily available solutions.

We live in SoCal, are recently retired and have 5 grandkids (hence the Class C still seems to be a great design for us). We love short trips and long trips, whether staying in one spot for a while or moving along every few days. We easily settle into the RV as home, always bring along our bicycles. We tow a '98 jeep, which we also decided to keep 'til it dies. I think I know what I'd like to replace it with, but sure hope it's not necessary for a while after this purchase.

Welcome from Wisconsin. One 'preventive thing' you might want to consider is surge/EMS protection. Progressive Industries seems to be the brand of choice here. Link: Progressive Industries RV Surge and Electrical Protection industry lea Go under the Products tab to see which unit would fit your needs. Not cheap but considering what it would cost to replace all your on board electronics it's good insurance.

You need to get that on the list- towards the top! And you won't find any vendor as accommodating and helpful as Progressive Industries. They are the best.

Welcome from Nova Scotia. I would make sure the TPMS moniters both tire pressure as well as tire temperatures. I always thought a back up camera was a "nice to have" but now that I have used one, I would say get on as soon as you can. Just another peace of mind seeing what is behind you or checking on your toad. Have fun.
