Introduction from RGV
I've monitored this forum for some time and gotten some useful information from time to time. Thought I would take a few minutes this evening to introduce myself. I'm J.J. Moore and my wife Peggy and I are down in the Rio Grande Valley in Pharr, Texas for the winter. This is the third winter that we have spent down here with our Sandpiper 341RLD. It has been a great RV and very comfortable for stays down here. We arrived in the valley around the 4th of January and will depart around the 1st of April. Are there any other members that are down here for the winter?
We are very happy with the unit we have and have had nothing but a few very minor problems. Got caught in the dometic recall and had to almost laugh over the fix they came up with.
Will continue to stay in touch over the coming months.
One thing we have learned down here in the windy RGV is that awning bows really do work well. We keep our awning up all winter and with the awning bows we have had no problem with winds up to 50 mph.
Regards,
JJ & Peggy
and our two cats Susie and Louie

Sorry for not checking back sooner.
I will take some pictures of the awning bows tomorrow and post them.

Awning bow pictures
I have never posted pictures on this forum so here I go to give it a try.
There are 3 pics. One shows the bows as installed against the awning fabric. One shows the attachment at the trailer side and the last one shows the attachment to the awning roller.

I bought them at the Don-Wes Flea Market in Donna, Texas. This flea market has a lot of shops that cater to RVers since there are about 70,000 of us down in the Rio Grande Valley during the winter. The website below should give you a good approximation of the price you should pay and also has another decent picture of the bows installed. If interested in purchasing I would call the phone number that is shown on picture 3. Camping World offers something a little bit different and much pricier.
Hope some of this helps.
The winds in the valley today were a steady 25 to 30 mph with gusts near 40 and we had no problems with our awning installed as it is. We also have full screens around the entire awning area to provide shade and knock down the wind on days like today.
