Maiden Voyage for the Surveyor
We leave Friday for the first family camp out in the Surveyor. The first camp out is close to home. We decided to keep it simple and then progressively travel further from home.
This weekend will be Hermit Park near Estes Park, Colorado. http://www.larimer.org/naturalresources/brochure_hermitpark.pdf
Pictures to come.
I also want to take a moment for some brief shutouts:
bamasurveyor: Our coupler heights match, thanks to you I corrected my shank order in time.
windrider: WD hitches live up to all of their hype. Thanks to your suggestion I didn't make a mistake of towing the trailer without one.
nowait: Using a cordless drill to raise and lower the jacks is the way to go! Thank you!
NDJollyMon and Charles Bruni: I love clean holding tanks and saving money.
dichayer: Using Velcro and throwing away the screws on the access panels is the right way.
eTrailer: You are a model online retailer. Keep it up!

I'll be the first to say, "THANK-YOU" from all of us. We're here to help each other, and hopefully prevent an accident or two along the way, or at least straighten the learning curve. Thank-you for having an open mind, and being willing to listen to suggestions, and to learn from others, and we hoped we saved you a few bruises along the way. Good luck on your maiden voyage, and may all go well.

The park looks great. I am so envious. Have a great time and post lots of pictures when you return. Eveyone loves to see the places others have been. We had plans to get away this next week ourselves but alas our rig had to go back to the shop due to a faulty refrigerator with an intermittant problem of not cooling that doesn't happen while at the repair shop. HUMPF!

Good for you. It sounds like you have done a lot of the right things without having to go through the learning curve that a lot of us had to go through. There is a lot of great information on this site.
I'm glad the velcro worked for you. It took me 3 years of taking those darn screws in and out before I said "enough of this crap".
Happy camping,
Dick Chayer

You guys have got to try camping in the Roosevelt National Forest just West of Ft. Collins. Lots of beautiful campgrounds and great hiking. It is one of our favorite destinations; from Minnesota!!

Hermit Park Trip Report
Here are our pictures of Hermit Park. Hermit Park is a new addition to the Larimer County Parks system, and the campground we were in looked brand new. As in only a few weeks old. There are four campgrounds in Hermit park. Area 2, where we were, is by far the most RV friendly.
In conclusion. I made a big mistake posting information about Hermit park on this forum. It would be best if you all just stay away and never camp there.
Why?
There is nothing for the kids to do.
There are a bunch of stray animals in the area
And there is no view on account of all the trees
So. Bottom line, Hermit Park may be too nice to share.
So, I will leverage an old Jedi mind trick. "This is not the campground you are looking for."

Thank you for reminding us how fortunate we are to be here. This camper has been a long time coming for my family, and we are clearing our summer calendar to make better use of it.

Hopefully, I am starting a new trend in this fine forum.

Thanks for sharing the gorgeous pictures - scenery and family! The park area is just what we remember, even the weather. We also saw a HUGE mountain goat up close and personal in RMNP last time we were there. Might have been on those boulders in your pictures.
