Movin' on up to a 5th Wheel

Trading in my Heartland North Trail TT for a 2016 Sanibel 3601 5th wheel and can't wait for delivery! I thought I could live full time in the North Trail but it turned out I wasn't meant for 'tiny' living after all! Guess you never know until you live in one what you really need and/or want.

Still working a full time job and volunteering at the park where I'm living full time (Texas). Wish I could be retired by now but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

All ears on any sage advice from you full timers, looking forward to learning a lot on this forum.

Welcome from Huntsville, AL! There are a couple of resources out there dedicate to the Fulltime RVer (although the Forums here are KILLER on repair advice and tips 'n tricks!)

Check out the Escapees - and in particular the Xcapers [https://www.xscapers.com/] a group of full time employed & fulltime RVers.

Other fulltime questions? Ask away and we can try to help!

Welcome to the 5th Wheel Life! I don't know about you, but for years I kept saying no way to a 5er. However, when the DW saw the Crusader 315RST, she fell in love.

How did you learn you were moving to a 5er? Did you happen to see one and check it out, or did you just get tired of the lack of space and start looking from there?

Originally was looking at 5th wheels but my house sold in such a hurry (never even made it on the market) so I had to get something quick and thought the TT would be big enough. But after 6 months I found out it was not so went back to my original plan of owning a 5th wheel. Started checking the RV shows and online and found the Sanibel. My main needs were residential fridge and W/D and the Sanibel has that and more. Should have gone with the 5th wheel the first time and saved the money (from the TT depreciating so quick).

We originally bought a 2015 Rockwood Mini Lite due to not having a pickup, only an Avalanche. The Avalanche was never that comfortable a tow vehicle even though we were under on tongue weight and GVWR. After having to replace the rear end on the Avalanche we decided to trade it in on a pickup. Bought a GMC 2500 Dmax. Now that we had a truck we started thinking about the comfort of the Mini Lite on trips lasting several months. Wasn't going to work. Traded in the Mini Lite for a 2016 Open Range Lite 297RLS 5er. Just finished a 7 week trip and the comfort level of our 5er more than justified the depreciation loss on the Mini Lite. The extra storage space is a bonus. Of all the 5ers we looked at, although it is an SOB (some other brand), the length is perfect for storage in our driveway, the GVWR is way below our trucks capacity as is the loaded pin weight. Our other requirement was for the windowless kitchen wall to be on the drivers or left side of the coach. I want to look out on MY campsite, not my neighbors.
