New A124 owner

Chris and Julie here. Bought an A124 today and take delivery on Monday. Previous campers include everything from 20' enclosed cargo conversion, several pop ups, several motor homes, a couple of travel trailers, and the last one was my 2nd A Liner, a 2005 Expedition LXE. After a horrendous hail storm, the A Liner was totaled. Not really hurt but repair cost exceeded the retail value of the camper by $150.00. So, the search began, we looked at all the old style campers we'd owned in the past and in the end found this little guy and really liked the layout...more user friendly than the A Liner. I think we'll be happy with this new one, I'll know more after a week or so. I'm glad a forum exists to gather much desired info. Thanks, Chris

Welcome! Remember to come hang out some in the Tent Camper and AFrame sub forum here at frf.

I look forward to seeing your input on the A124. I think you may be the first 124 owner I've seen on here. I like the idea of the shower but the 124 wasn't around when we bought last fall, so we have the A126.

Thanks all!

Jeep4Two, I am planning on towing with a JK too. Towed it home and got 16 MPG. It was about an hour drive half interstate and half two lane twisty roads...in a torrential downpour. The jeep did well other than it seemed to have a little much tongue weight.

I think? the shower will be great. Our Aliner had the earlier model of the same unit and other than not being able to stand up, I liked it. This one is directly in the center and directly under the fan. It should dry quickly after showers.

Being an "A" frame fan, I had seen the Rockwood units but never really looked until the hail killed ours. The insurance company hasn't picked up my Aliner yet and I would love to do a side by side on them...although the Aliner is 7 years old.

I've been lurking in the a frame section, probably migrate there now.
Chris

I highly suggest a WDH for the tailer if you are towing with a 2 Door JK. Just doesn't feel safe otherwise. I did a couple trips without and after getting the WDH I'm 100% confident in the short wheel base Jeep with my A126 behind. I went with a 1000 pound reunion bar WDH drone Reese with a shank from Curt to get the drop needed to tow level. PM Me if you want specific part numbers.

Actually just found the info on my Weight Distribution Hitch setup: Went with Reese 66065 WD Hitch (600 pound - my error on saying 1000 pound) and a Curt Shank part 17120.

The 17120 shank is HUGE and weighs a ton (ok, not a ton but easily 25 pounds) and combined with the hitch head comes in at what has to be about 50 pounds.

The setup however allows the Jeep to be properly leveled (no rise in the front suspension, about an inch of drop in the rear suspension). Without WDH the front suspension came up a good 1 1/2 inches with about 2 inches of drop in the rear.

The Jeep tows much better after the WDH setup, less instability and 'porpoiseing' and no light feeling in the steering or front end.

If you have a JKU the longer wheelbase may not require the WDH, but it's a MUST for 2 door short wheelbase Jeep Wranglers.
