New but now second-generation RVer

Growing up as a kid, we would go trailer camping several times a year. I remember the many idiosyncrasies of our early 1970s Aljo trailer. My parents have moved on from that old Aljo (actually, my dad ripped it down to the lower frame, refurbished it and made it into a flat-bed trailer) and have a now 10-year old trailer. There are improvements from the old Aljo with their current, but still a few pains I hope to avoid. Anyway, my wife and I are getting our first trailer. We are purchasing the Flagstaff Micro Lite 21FBRS. We have set up a pick-up date of April 18. As it is currently March 24th, that gives us a little time to get ready for its arrival. I am hoping to change my tow vehicle between now and then. I currently have a 2013 Ford Explorer (with towing capacity of 5000 pounds... just barely enough with very little stuff).

I have my first short trip planned the following week. This first trip I will be going without the wife (due to her work schedule) but I will be joining my parents, parking next to them at my former boarding high school in the Monterey Bay area. We are hoping to get out more frequently and will usually take our dogs with us... both labs.
