New camper
Going to be buying either a grey wolf 29bh or a wildwood 282qbxl soon. Prices are similar and so are all the specs. Are certain types built better than others or does it just come down to preference?

I don't know much about the Wildwood. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the Grey Wolf is very popular. That being said, I did not choose the Cherokee Grey Wolf, instead I went with the Cherokee. It was a bit heavier but I got a full height slide, the Grey Wolf has a step up slide and steals about 6-8 inches of headroom, I am not sure about the Wildwood.
Another factor was the sleeper sofa, the Grey Wolf only had a jackknife, again, not sure about the Wildwood.
Another item was the wheels, tires and axles. When I was shopping brands, the Grey Wolf and Cherokee had 15" wheels, good load rating tires and easy lube bearings where the competitors had 14" and no zerk for bearings.
There are a lot of Grey Wolf trailers out there, especially your model, so I imagine replacement parts are easy to get so repair times might be low. If you are in the "West" region I think I would go with Grey Wolf, otherwise, I would check to see which has a better deployment in you region, this way the kinks are worked out at factory.

That's interesting I never even looked at wheel size and grease options.

So in general build quality is the same throughout all the lines of campers or is that not true?

Welcome to the forum. Depends where each is made as QC can vary. Nothing perfect in this world and Murphy law always plays its part. Later RJD

I am new to this as well and like you I did an extraordinary amount of research so I was well informed and not taken for a ride. I was however still surprised at how much I missed during inspection (crooked everything). I have friends who have Springdale, Jayco and Dutchmen trailers and the stories are all the same. They are just assembled too fast. It seems they would save money to slow down and assemble with better quality rather than pay the dealers to fix everything under warranty. In the end I will get a trailer I am happy with because the bones are good and everything works. I also planned for this by buying in fall so repairs could be made over the winter.
In summary, I am very impressed with the FR Cherokee design colors, materials and pre-assembled items. The cabinets, drawers, counters, sink, appliances etc... are all very nicely done they were just installed with speed in mind not finish quality. I do not know for sure about other brands, only what I hear from others.
Happy Trails

If you have an opportunity to go to an RV show where you can see both makes (not necessarily those models), you'll get a feel for whether or not either one has a better build quality.

Thanks for the input guys. We are actually looking at both on Monday and prices are good on both so I think we will close the deal on one of them. I was just curious if it was general knowledge that a certain type is a little higher end. Sounds like it will just be a preference thing once we look.

I think the quality can vary from trailer to trailer in the same line even....just look really hard at the one's you want to buy and compare the same two trailers that are on the lot.
and good luck!!

Congrats! Best advice is to do a shakedown camping trip, even if it's in your driveway. Makes it easy to pack what you need and remove what you don't.

I recently did a cleansing of "stuff" when we moved from a 5er to a class A. I was amazed at the amount of stuff that I had in storage areas, that we never used in 4 seasons of camping. I also keep different totes in the garage that contain different types of camping experiences, beach, hiking, lake. Make notes throughout your weekend for organizational items, stock dry goods, containers that will fit certain areas, etc.
