New campers

Hello from Ks! Happy to be a family of new campers! Just purchased a 2016 Vibe 322QBS. We'll be staying close to home for a while. Just want to get a feel for it before we venture out. Looking to convert our 50 amp 220v hot tub line to a 50 amp 110v hook up to prep here at home. Ugh
Really looking forward to the "community" here on the site!

Welcome! Make sure you get an electrician that knows RV electrical requirements!! I'm amazed at some of the stories about trained electricians that don't do RV power correctly.

Welcome to the forum. It would be a lot easier to do a 30amp hook up which will still run 1 ac. Unless you are not planing on sleeping a lot in it at home need not need 50amp. I have 30amp service to my 50 amp camper . Later RJD

The confusion that usually causes problems is that the RV power (for 50 amp) is a 220 volt hookup. That 220 volts is divided into two 110 volt legs. So, when you connect your RV to a 50 amp service, you are really connecting it to two 110 volt lines, NOT a single 220 volt line.
I'm sure others can explain it more elegantly, but that's the essential issue.

30 amp is just a larger capacity, single 110 volt service. Will not usually cause too much confusion because it is the same wiring setup as a normal household circuit (well, except for the heavier wire, higher capacity circuit breaker, and RV receptacle).
Also note, whether you have a 30 or 50 amp RV, a 30 amp circuit at home will get you so most of what you need (lights, AC, pre cool frig, etc).

And, yes, certified electricians have hooked up 50 amp RV outlets to deliver one leg of 220 volts instead of 2 legs of 110. Hasn't happened to me personally, but there are reports of it happening on this and other RV forums.

Welcome to the FRForum.
We had an electrician installed a RV outdoor elec box Click image for larger version

Name:	IMAG0741.jpg

Size:	198.2 KB
ID:	111537 (50 & 30amp RV receptacles and 2 110V outlets all with GFI) so we can use the TT when it is parked at our house (purchased from ZORO.com). The TT is fully functional without using the LP. Great place to watch a BB game on a rainy day plus the grand-children love staying in it when they visit.

welcome to the forum, before you jump in and change the 50/220 at your house you need to read up on how the 50 amp service works for an RV. At the pedestal it is 220 (like your hot tub) however when you plug in with your 50 amp cord to the TT it splits the service into two 110 circuits with a common neutral. Check with a qualified electron that knows RVs to be certain

Thanks everyone! I will definitely get a sparktrician to take care of it as neither the hubby or I are knowledgeable enough to attempt it. Ha ha
