New From Florida

Hello All,
Our family is new to the RV world as of this week. We just purchased our first RV; a Georgetown XL and we're very excited. We live in SW Florida and have 3 children, 10, 6 and 4. We would love any recommendations on great RV parks and resorts in Florida.

Congrats on the new Georgetown - Hope you love RVing as much as we have (over 40 years and counting).

Can't comment on but one RV park in Fla... If you never stay anywnere else, try to spend some time at Fort Wilderness Campground at Disney World, even if you're not into the Disney World thing. It's unlike any other, and you'll want to never leave! If you have kids, you may have to sedate them before they'll let you leave!!!

And excited you should be. You are starting out on a great family life style. Fort Wilderness @ Disney World is a good place to start. As a Florida residence you get discounts, start with a premium site. Can downgrade later if too much. You don't have to go to the theme parks to enjoy F/W. The Florida state parks are very good. Get a state park book that list all the locations and facilities and visit their web site.

Top Sail state park east of Destin is what we call Fort Wilderness by the sea. Very nice beach along the Gulf, pool, tram service to the beach area, shaded sites, full hook-ups. Parks in the keys are nice like Bahia Honda and up along the East coast near St. Augustine.

Remember the "family that camps together stays together."

Hi from San Antonio Tx. We've had our Georgetown xl 377, about 3 weeks, used it everyone of them but this weekend, it's the shop for warranty work, just a few small things, I'm sure you'll find some too, don't let it get you, first time we had it out no hot water the entire stay, as we were getting ready to go he found a switch/bypass then came the hot water. It may seem odd, but it's stories like that, that make it fun! Good luck, have fun!

Thanks all for the nice comments. We're actually heading to Fort Wilderness this coming week. Fort Wilderness is where we were inspired to start looking at RVs....as I spent 3 hours breaking down tents, packing the minivan, etc while the rest of the family went to the parks. I looked at all the RVs around and thought that has to be the easier way.

You were WAY ahead of us on the Ft. Wilderness idea!!! Boy are you ever gonna enjoy the RV. Our family never did the tent thing - went straight to pop-ups (2), a Travel Trailer, and now our 3rd MH. If I'd had any sense, we'd have started out with a MH, but as the old saying goes - "too soon old, too late smart"

Welcome fellow Floridian. We are in Orlando. We are working our way through the Florida State Parks. Lots of good camping. All that have RV slots have water and electric at the site and some also have sewer connection. Welcome to Florida State Parks Price is reasonable and lots to do at the park and surrounding area. Wide range of choices from the Everglades to the beaches to Natural Springs. Hope to see you on the road. We just got back from Paynes Prairie and are going to Rainbow Springs in May.
