NEW GUY

Hello,
New to the forums. Have enjoyed reading so far.
We've been "weekenders" in a casita for about three years. Now retired, we purchased a 2014 Coachman Catalina 263RLS for longer trips.
The salesman convinced me our Ford Expedition was of sufficient size to pull this trailer and now that it's a done deal, I would like some other opinions (didn't realize there was a place to ask prior to purchase).
The Expedition is a 2011, XLT-EL, 5.4L, 6 spd. auto, with heavy duty tow package.

THANKS. I realize that "by the book" it is up to the job. Sometimes the specs., on paper, are not exactly what is experienced in the real world. I was hoping to hear from someone who has "been there, done that". For example, when on a long level stretch of road the transmission seems to have to shift down periodically just to maintain speed (I use tow/haul) and I wonder if this is normal or if the power insufficient for the purpose.

I can not help with your Expedition question but I do want to welcome you to the forums and congratulations on the new unit.

I use Tow/Haul with Cruise set 65. No shifting of the trans unless a pretty good incline or significant headwind. I have no complaints with my setup but my TT is a little lighter than yours.

THANKS,
I don't recall what speed I was using but next time I'm out I'll set the cruise on 65 and see how it goes.
thanks again.

Just noticed you were from Buda. I'm just up the road from you in South Austin.

WELL, HELLO, NEIGHBOR (kho6658). We bought the trailer in Feb. and have made practice runs to Inks lake, Garner, Lake Somerville and Mother Neff. Had to install a new water pump already. my only complaint so far is the down shifting I mentioned. Maybe we'll cross paths one of these days.

Went to Inks last year and it was great. Also Pedernales is close and very nice. We camp mostly in Jelly stone parks for the kids. Spring Break at Waller and in three weeks will be at Burleson. Trip planned to Destin in July and usually Inks at the end of summer before the kids go back to school. I store my TT in Kyle and take 1826 thru Buda to avoid 35. If you see a black Expedition pulling a Avenger on the back roads, that will be me.

Mine is also in Kyle, RV Land. My Expedition is bronze, trailer is Catalina. I'll keep an eye out.
