New guy from RI...

Hi all...

It's amazing...there's a forum for everything! And am I glad there is!

Here's my story..my neighbors had a camper...21' Wildwood 5th wheel. Husband died about 6 years ago. The camper just sat in their yard since then.

So we ask the widow if she wants to sell the camper. She says "yes", and we buy it.

At a quick glance, it looks pretty good. Fact is, I know absolutely nothing about these things, or camping in general. All this is new to me.

Well, I soon discover that it has some rot, and I start to dissect it. After a certain point...like enough dripping wet, rotted layers of wood, mouse nests and poop, and termites the size of June bugs, I got to a point where I was going to strip and salvage what I could, and junk the box. Cut my losses.

Then I decided to fix it. So, I'm in the middle of all that right now. This is truly a labor of love. Others think I'm nuts!

So, the adventure begins...I'm gonna need a lot of forum help!!

Thanks for reading all this.

Rich

Well, the upside of doing what you are doing, is you can modify it anyway you wish. Add in things that you like and want. It just takes foresight and perseverance.

Good Luck?

Welcome to the forum. Quite a story and a journey that hopefully will take you to new horizons. I hope all goes well and yes you can now make upgrades to the camper. Enjoy and Later RJD

Funny you should mention that...one of the reasons that I decided to restore it was that my daughter said that I should fix it up, and "make it my own"...along the lines of what you said.

Oh...after seeing how the factory built this thing, upgrades are a necessity!

Thank you! It's gonna be another learning curve for me. I'm going to go to a huge college campus parking lot on a Sunday, and practice maneuvering this thing!

Welcome! And good luck with your build..
Rebuilt many rotted RV's over the years, and had a lot of fun using them after.
As said above, you get to build it any way you like.

Thank you. I'll need some luck! I do know that it will be somewhat an improvement over the factory build when I'm finished.

Just don't know exactly when that will be, though.......

Thanks, Grey Wolf! This is a whole new world for me, so I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can. My wife and I will be retiring in a few years, so we didn't want to lay out a large RV investment until we learn the ropes.

We can always upgrade later on.

Just remember it will cost you bucks to up grade so keep in mind if and when you decide to buy new. May take a bit to recoup your expenses. Later RJD
