Hello everyone! Just purchased a used 2002 Sandpiper Lite T23. Took it on one road trip so far. A bit heavy for my Yukon Denali going up the Siskiyou's; dogged the transmission a bit and overheated. Then coming back home it was 105 in Redding so had to watch the transmission temp AND the engine temp.

Was surprised (UGH! ) when I finally got the title from the dealership (salesman had said it weighed "around 3900 lbs...they make them all with aluminum now so they're really light!") and saw "Scale weight 6220"! That's a bit of a difference!

I've been trying to find info on this model. All my paperwork says its 23', but according to the NADA Guide there was no 23' model (or anything close) in 2002. And the plaque on the outside is so faded that I can't read anything it says. Inside I've found the serial number & model, but that's about it. Any ideas on how to get accurate info on this trailer?

Also, my tire company says my tires are fine (20" Open Country M/T rated for 2750 per tire) but my mechanic says I'm going to DIE when I have a blowout on these tires. He says I need 4-ply rated for 8-ply, with 4-ply sidewalls. Opinions?

Thank you!! Glad there's somewhere to go to ask questions!

Hello, and to the forums. Hope you enjoy the stay, and learn a lot, and can teach others what you already know. As for one of your questions, the tenth digit in the VIN number will give you the year, i.e, if it's a 3, then it is a 2003 model. In most trailers back then would be a sticker in a kitchen cabinet with weight, options, etc. Someone may have removed it though. As for the tires, a lot of people die when they have a blow out, and they aren't towing. Knowing what to do, and then executing will keep you safe. Your mechanic may be like your camper salesman, trying to make a sale.
