New in Washington

My wife and I bought a RV lot in a camping club 2 months ago. The original idea was to have a lot close enough to us that our daughter and family would come and stay with their 34' trailer.

After owning the lot for 3 weeks and doing a lot of cleaning, we ran into a person selling a nice looking 2004 30 ' FKSS. The deal was made and as can happen to a newbie I have now found a lot to repair..

The former owner had "patched" under the carpet and did not tell us that there had been major water damage. So we had 40 sq ft of flooring and new carpet replaced.

The holding tanks had not been emptied in at least 3 years. No manuals. No guidance. Water leak behind toilet. Electrical issues.

I have learned to re-caulk the windows, seams and lap joints. I am having someone do my EPDM roof next week. Maybe next year, I will be able to relax and enjoy the trailer.

I am retired US Navy and a computer tech. But don't know anything about trailers. Learning.

I hope my posts to this forum will be understandable and succinct. As I learn, I will also share.

Thanks to all, and hello.

Welcome to RVing! I didn't know a thing about trailers either in the beginning but there's no stopping me now. You can take the learning curve at a speed you are comfortable with. Remember that you have lots of friends here willing to offer feedback or advice.

Welcome from Anacortes. Sorry to hear you got some nasty surprises. The more I hear from other members, the more I realise how fortunate we were. We spotted our rig in the local Skagit Valley newspaper. It was at a lake-front community about 3- miles away.

We arranged to see it, and it turned out the sellers had bought it new. It was 8 years old and had only 12,000 miles on the clock and 48 hours on the generator. The price they were asking was about $8K less than NADA and they told us it was based on what they still owed on the home equity loan they'd used to buy it.

Apart from the fact that DW can't even reach the floor with her feet (front seats have no height adjust so she can't even think about driving it), it's been great so far. We've put about 5000 miles on it.

At 8 mpg, I'm not sure how many more seasons we'll be able to afford to keep it, but with two fairly elderly Labradors, I can't imagine trying to travel using hotels and restaurants.
