New member from IL

Hello everyone!

I'm new to forums and have been snooping around here for a bit. Trying to learn as much as I can before we take possession of our new TT. We ordered it at the STL show and have been waiting 76 days and counting. My local dealer that I bought our PopUp from retired so I had to go elsewhere. Not sure on what type of experience I will have. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks ov845. We were hoping to already have our TT by now. DW and I were trying to plan a camping trip to the wineries for our anniversary. That may not happen in time now.

Welcome from Wisconsin and congrats on your 2016 Cherokee Limited 274DBH. With 76 days behind you hopefully it won't be long now.

I hope so as well. We camp with almost 20 people total counting adults and children. My family in our PopUp along with other PopUps and TT's. My DW and I told them about us placing a down payment on a new TT at the show. Showed them pics and gave them info on it. Two families already went out and purchased new Forest River products. They have theirs and I'm still waiting.

Welcome from another Illinoisan.

In my younger days of family tent camping we too camped with 2 families, usually 4 adults and approx. 16 kids. Sure was a lot of fun.

Thanks geeman53 and Briorick. We have a trip planned on Memorial Day with the entire group again but trying to get out earlier for a trial run. Might be a lot of trial and error so wanting to keep the numbers down.

Where do you like to camp around your neck of the woods?

We enjoy going to the Rend Lake area. They have some nice CG's in the area. Perfect for fishing, boating and sightseeing.

Our favorite CG is Wayne Fitzgerrell State park ( very spacious ) and in the same locale as North and South Sandusky camping areas. Also Gun Creek. I have a attached a few links for you.

Parks

NORTH SANDUSKY CAMPGROUND, IL - Campground & Camping Details - ReserveAmerica - [NRSO]

SOUTH SANDUSKY CAMPGROUND, IL - Campground & Camping Details - ReserveAmerica - [NRSO]

We also have ventured down to Fort Massac State Park. Beautiful area, very nice and well kept campground. It is located in Metropolis, Il. Already reserved another outing there in June.

Am looking forward to making a trip up to Starved Rock hopefully this year as well. My home town area.

There are other CG's in our near area as well. Such as Carlyle Lake, that some say is really nice. We have never been, so can't comment on.

Where in Illinois are you living?

YORKVILLE! WTH is YORKVILLE? JK, I used to live there back in the very early 60's and then onto Aurora. Yorkville is a nice, and now not so little, town. I will always remember the little dam in the downtown area.

They reworked the dam, they a nice little park along the river. We got our first movie theater last year. Widening 47 in some areas. Now my wife and I want to move! LOL! Just kidding.

Thanks for the info and the links! I will check them out and get back to you on them.

We have been to Carlyle a couple times. It was pretty nice and the lake is huge. We go with a large group and one family has a boat. For this reason we try to be near the water quite a bit.

We live in St. Jacob, IL and are about 30 minutes straight East of St. Louis, MO.

Know right where you're located. Have been there on a Craigslist pickup awhile back. Nice little town.

We are about 40 minutes South of you, between Marissa and Sparta, Il. right off of Rt. 4.

Going to check out the campground there this year. It's been years since I've been there. We go to the newly opened Big Rock campground if we just want to get away for a night. Been there?

The DW and I, near Freeburg, had hoped to make it to the World Shooting Complex to camp (1000 campsites to choose from, but none with any shade to speak of) and do some target practice since they had finally opened the pistol range to the public on some days, but alas the state has closed the range and campground indefinitely due to our budget crisis. I think the employees are still there, they just have little to do now unless there's a contracted event going on.

We go to Rend Lake a few times a year, Fitzgerrell SP is nice, some sites you can anchor your boat at your campsite but CoE campgrounds are a better value for this retired couple.

One place we like is Lake Glendale, the only NFS campground in the Shawnee with both electric and water hookups. And the shower house is open ALL YEAR LONG. It's a small lake and might be limited to trolling motors, I'm not sure about that.

Oh and to the OP, welcome to the forum!
